Ebony looked up at Josh, and smiled slightly. She was used to being targeted, seeing as how she had been able to fight off the people who wanted the royalty she was escorting dead. Many had come after her when she would come back to Cocoon, wishing to exterminate her as well. But their plans always backfired, with them being the ones killed themselves. They always underestimated Ebony. Geoff was obviously going to do the same.
"It's alright. I've been on plenty of hitlists before. You know I can take care of myself. I'll just have to on guard most of the time, until I know Geoff has been dealt with. I can manage. There's no need to worry."
That was the life of an escort guardian. You always had to be on guard, ready for an ambush. Because it could happen anywhere, at anytime.

Josh nodded some listening to Ebony. Of course she could take care of herself. He knew it, but he just wanted her to be safe. "I know you can...But...Geoff is different. He's going to think his next plan through im sure...to try and get around your magic abilities or take you out before you get a chance to attack him..." Josh sighed before taking a few steps away from ebony, not facing her, his eyes examined the clouds in the sky. "If anything were to happen to you...I dont know what i'd do....probably go after Geoff and avenge your death or something." He chuckled a bit trying to lighten the mood, even though he himself wasn't the happiest right now.
"Ebony...people can make mistakes...one wrong move and...." Josh stared at the ground now, unable to finish his sentence. "Lets get outta here...?" He asked turning towards her some but still not looking at her.

Ebony's smile fell as Josh turned around and spoke. She didn't know exactly what to say, but the fact that no words came to mind didn't exactly help with the matter. She looked down at the ground as well, noticing the scorch marks that littered the ground, still slightly visible. She knew exactly where they came from. They came from her, trying to get rid of all the anger that had accumulated inside her during the point of time of when Josh had left abruptly to go back to his home world of Delatorr to fight. The reason as to why she had been so angry was the fact that she couldn't stop thinking about the Sergeant at the time, and that had aggravated her to point where she had to release power to feel better. Now she knew why.
Ebony looked up as Josh turned back around, but he still chose not to look at her. She sighed, took a few steps forward, and leaned her head aginst Josh's chest.
"I understand that you're worried about me, Josh, but I'm worried about you as well. Geoff only wants me out of the picture so that he can get to you easily. How do you think I feel about all of this?"
Ebony closed her eyes, trying to get rid of the images that were entering her mind. Horrid images of Josh bleeding, dead. Geoff standing over him, a triumphant smile plastered over his face. And Ebony, on the sidelines, helpless and grief-stricken.
"Just as you say, if anything happened to you, I don't know what I would do. You're the first person that ever truly cared about me, and I don't want to lose that. I'll promise to be careful, so long as you do the same."

Josh had his eyes closed but felt Ebony lean against him. He smiled slightly, eyes still shut as he wrapped one arm around her. He knew she had a reason to be worried to...a soldier in the army...fighting for a living really, it was a scary road to travel on, but the thing that kept Josh safe really, was Ebony. While fighting back home she may not be there, but the thought of putting her through pain...grief made Josh work even harder to stay alive and remain unharmed. It gave him motiviation and a reason to go on.
"Well i'd hope you'd be scared....if you weren't then i'd find you weird...Hell i'll tell you Im afraid of what Geoff might come up with next...if he doesn't target you it'll certainly be me..." He sighed as his green eyes opened and looked down at Ebony, his smile stretched a little wider. "But I think we'll both be alright...I'll do whatever it takes to keep you safe...I'm never going away...pernamently that is...Not even Geoff can silence me on that." Josh then squeezed her a bit with the one arm wrapped around her, kinda like another hug, but not really? Just reassuring her of his statement.
"Okay Ebony....I promise..." Josh kissed her forehead then and smiled looking straight ahead, getting mental images himself...not pretty ones, but all the possiblilites of what could go wrong. He just hoped this promise he could keep...

Ebony kept her eyes closed, but a slight smile found its way upon her lips. She put her arms around Josh lightly, returning the very small embrace.
"Thank you."
After a few second, Ebony moved back.
"We had best be going. It would be a good idea if we weren't in the same as when Geoff left, only to ahve him come back."
Ebony, of course, was speaking from experience.

Josh smirked a smile at Ebony as he started walking a bit, slow, but still. "What kind of Soldier would I be if I just died? Oh no. Geoff'll get whats coming to him...now that im aware of his presence...he wont win that easily." Josh smiled at that, there would be so many things Josh could do to prepare for Geoff and his next meeting, like work on his magic skills and what not, plan some sort of Soldier ambush if he gathered up a few friends. His eyes cut back to Ebony. "I highly doubt Geoff would be stupid enough to come back here...unless he forgot something but you're right...lets get going, back to town just in case. I know Geoff wouldn't want to cause a scene in a world that isn't his to mess with..." And Josh was right, Dispite the fact that you would label Geoff as 'evil' He didn't like causing a scene infront of the innocent, it made them aware of his abilities and intentions.

Ebony stayed silent until they had finally reached the inn. She entered and and went up to her room, inviting Josh in as well.
"Seeing as how Geoff's weakness is magic, I think we may need to work on your magic skills. That way, we won't have to always rely on me to either weaken and/or kill him. Though you probably want to do that last part yourself? And if worse comes to worse, I can always fight without simple magic."
As soon as she finished, Ebony reached down to her right boot and pulled up what looked like a riot dagger of sorts. As soon as she knew Josh had a glimpse of it, she put it back into hiding.
"It usually helps to have a back-up plan when fighting."

Josh sighed, she was right, in his own words he would've said that his magic skills sucked...get better! But that was a more polite way to say it. "My magic skills probably cant get any better...as far as I know I only know the basic Thunder through Thundaga magic...nothing more...at least that i've tried." He said now wondering if he had any other magical potential. Maybe Ebony could help him with that, if he could do anything else of course.
He looked at the dagger and then looked at Ebony's face with a raised brow. "Back-up plan? I suppose you're right...magic tends to be my backup plan...not the best but it helps some..." He shrugged. "Say, is there any way to find out if theres any other magical abilities one possesses?" Josh asked thinking of all the things he wished he could do with magic...the elements and what not.

Ebony crossed her arms and leaned against the wall, her mind going into overdrive, trying to think of something that would work.
"I noticed. By the way, your Thundaga could use some work, just to let you know..."
Ebony closed her eyes, going over all the information she knew about that was on magic. There were cases when people could only use one type of magic. It could be that way for Josh, as well.
"It's possible. I mean, if you really wanted to find out, you could try different types of magic and see how good you are at using them, but that would take time, and we don't exactly have much of that...When people become L'Cie, they are also able to use a certain of magic depending on what Fal'Cie brands them, but there is no way in hell that we are using that option...I guess, I could always just teach you most of the basics and go from there?"

Josh rolled his eyes some as he smirked. "and to think my magic couldn't get ANY better...?" He mumbled the statement dripping with sarcasm. "Well...you'll help me..." He smiled at Ebony and felt pretty confident about this. Ebony would be a great magic teacher for him, he just had to learn the basics and now blow anything up. That was his new goal. Josh just had so many goals in life...anyways.
"Alright coach...when and where do you wanna work on this? I mean...as long as I dont blow anyone up or anything I think this'll be a good thing." He said folding his arms and confirming his statement with a nod and a grin. "Geoff wont know what hit him."

Ebony closed her eyes, and put her hand up to her chin, thinking.
"We could probably use the mansion area, and maybe some of the forest areas. I won't be able to teach you in the ways of white magic, but black magic should be relatively easy."
Ebony opened her eyes, and started rummaging through her desk drawers, and her messenger bag. She pulled out some papers, and some small books. Once, she had finished her little scavenger hunt, she placed her hand on the small pile she had accumalated.
"Read these. They'll help you catch up on the basics. Once you're able to understand these, I'll be able to teach you the rest."

That was probably the best place to go. The mansion had a lot of space to use. Hopefully this would all go well and Josh wouldn't set anything or anyone on fire or something. "Sounds good to me." He shrugged watching Ebony pull out a few books and what not. Oh boy. This was going to be like school all over again. And this was his homework. Josh looked at the pile and raised an eyebrow, at least it wasn't too much, unless it was all tiny printed words. "Homework? on the first day? Fun stuff." He said picking up the pile of books and what not and holding them lightly. What all was he going to learn? It was anyones guess.
"So im going to learn the basics...and black magic?" He asked curiously. This would give him a big boost on his fighting skills if he mastered some more magic. And with him and Ebony being able to do magic, Geoff would get blown to bits and never show his face around again. The mental image of Geoff's shocked face when he and Ebony kicked his butt via magic, was priceless. It made Josh all the more eager to get started. "I'll have these all read and memorized by tomorrow...count on it." He smiled at Ebony in confidence of all this.
This was a good thing...
Maybe.

Ebony croseed her arms as she watched Josh pick up the small stack of books and papers. She wasn't going to tell him that she had actually stolen them from a library when she was little. She could keep that classified for right now.
"Don't think of it as homework. Think of it as constructive learning. Without magic, you wouldn't have the satisfaction of knowing you could take on Geoff with the upper hand. And knowledge always come first in ways of power. At least, that's what I think."
Ebony nodded and continued.
"You'll be learning most of the basics. I can't help in ways of white magic seeing as how I don't know them myself. I didn't feel the need to learn them when I was little, so I don't need them now at the moment."

Josh let out a laugh, unexpectedly. "Constructive learning? Boy you sound like one of my old highschool teachers now. I still consider this homework." He said as his laughed died down to a light chuckle. He nodded at What Ebony said and she was right, knowledge did come first, to some people, Josh wasn't necessarily one of them, but it was a good priority of his. What mattered to him when it came to power mostly was leadership, but that was a discussion for another day. Right now he had some work to do. "Eh. knowledge or not, I'll read through these and I wont complain..." He said adjusting the books and papers in his hands.
"Any magic learned is another step ahead of Geoff...I call this a good idea." Josh smirked before looking towards the door. "Like I said before, I'll get these read and what not and maybe tomorrow if you aren't busy we can get started? If im going to learn anything we've gotta get the ball rolling before Geoff strikes again." Josh warned inching his way towards the door holding the books against his chest to free one of his hands. "So I better get crackin on all this....homework." He chuckled.

Ebony sighed and shook her head.
"Whatever."
Ebony then walked over to the door and opened it for him, motioning for him to go on.
"I have some research I have to do early tomorrow morning, but after that, I'm free. We can start working then. And I'll need all of those materials once you're done with them, by the way."
(Sorry for the crappy post. My muse has been on low lately. >.<)
