--Back on the Grey foggy abandoned streets of Delatorr--
Josh leaned against a wall as he looked back at the few men he was leading. Apparently the rebel side of all this had hired some new soliders from out of this world to help them fight...and for a great price. Ha. Paying for soliders because you were too weak. Thats what Josh thought it all was. Josh nodded to one of his men and then looked around a corner. The streets were so quiet and empty...So Josh, gunblade out quickly rounded the corner followed by his 4 other men. In a defenside stance Josh looked around. Nothing...he eased up on his posture, his mind running elsewhere...thinking back of cocoon...and Ebony. Almost lost in a day dream until a giant BOOM was heard and it hit right in the middle of the 5 men on the street, Josh included. They all flew in seperate directions and Josh quickly got this feet as he looked around. A look of utter horror on his face as they had been taken off guard....He had been taken off guard by a bomb that got his men hurt...or worse.
Josh looked around and saw only one figure ahead of him. That must be one of those special soldiers...and then the fight really started. Josh didn't want to have to admit that he was having a tough time on his own, but he was. His gunblade slashing everywhere trying to get a hit in but always being blocked. Josh always seemed to be the one getting hit severely. A cut to his cheek started to sting. He paused a moment before his eyes gave off a cold hearted look as he charged for the enemy soldier. 3 shots fired into his arm and Josh stood there taking in the pain almost in shock, before the enemy soldier ran forward, Kicked Josh right in the chest and watched him fall. They took one more shot, near his heart, but with a bad aim. It missed thankfully.
Josh laid there his eyes blurry and his grip loose on his gunblade. The enemy soldier chuckled thinking Josh would die...so he turned his back. Josh gritted his teeth, gripped his gunblade, raised his arm a bit, aimed for the back of this soldiers head, and fired. And down that soldier went. Lifeless.
Josh was found moments later and taken back to a hospital with his fellow soldiers and they were patched up, and living. Josh was free to go for now...after a few days which went by fairly quickly...Josh figured he would visit Cocoon and explain himself to Ebony, why he left so quickly and what was for the future...and with that...a departure to Cocoon...to Ebony...With Josh's arm in a sling and a battle scar on his cheek, he was happy.

Over the next few days, Ebony was miserable. And she hated it with a passion. No matter what she did her mind always wandered to Josh. How was he? Was he okay? Was he even still alive?
More than a couple of times, she went down to the mansion to practice. Well, more to let go of all the anger that had built up in her. She wondered if the mansion would even still be standing in a year or two with how she was pummeling both it and the grounds. And of course, every session led her thinking to the Sergeant once again and she would just shake her head and storm off.
She had tried doing research, but that only worked for about an hour. She would lay her head down and force herself to think about other things. She gave up after 5 tries. Luckily she had no escort notices come in.
Ebony didn't know why this was happening. Usually when someone left, she just shrugged her shoulders and went on with life. She never went into such a depression as she was in now. But, as the case has been stated many times, Joshw as different. He didn't keep his distance. He did talk to her more than anyone she ever knew, with a couple of exceptions. And he knew what she could do and he didn't really care. He even thought it was cool! She looked down and sighed, getting up and leaving the research facility.
She didn't care where she was going, she just let her feet take her where they wished to go at that moment...and that was the beach. Ebony sighed once more and went to go sit down at the end of a dock that overlooked the ocean. She just sat there and let her mind wander once again. She didn't care anymore.

Josh first started at the Inn. That was the typical first place for him to look. But Emilia had told Josh that Ebony left for the research facility already. Josh sighed and headed over there, he remembered exactly where it was, but when he got there Ebony was gone already. Someone had said she just left for no reason really. Josh sighed. This was hopeless. How was he going to find her now? She wasn't at the Inn she wasn't at work...maybe...Josh found the mansion area that she used to practice at. NOTHING. Josh growled to himself ripping off his sling and letting his arm work itself out, it didn't hurt all that much the doctors just wanted to be sure. Of course it was in a dark black cast...
With another failure at finding Ebony...Josh wandered. Where could she be? Josh went back to the same spot he had before to think, the beach. He looked around, it wasn't nearly as packed seeing as it was sunset now. Everyone was probably going home or out to eat dinner or something. Just then with a sigh, Josh noticed a figure, sitting on the edge of a dock. Was that....? Could it really be....?
"Ebony!" Josh didn't know what hit him but he yelled and ran onto the dock as fast as his legs would take him. He reached the end of the dock where she was sitting and just kinda stood there, his feet felt light as he stood there so excited to see her...

Ebony just sat there, eyes closed, listening to the waves crash against the shore. That seemed to calm her done a bit until she heard a very familiar voice yell her name over the waves.
It's official. I've gone insane. Not only can I not stop thinking about him, but my mind has now decided to mimic his voice. Just ignore it, Ebony. You'll get over this eventually.
But, then she heard hard footsteps that steadily grew louder as they came closer to her. Well, she knew she wasn't imagining that, it sounded too real. She sighed before deciding to take a quick glance just to see who was going to be annoying her now. She turned her body slightly catching a glimpse of who it was. She turned around fully, then, eyes widening. It couldn't be...
Ebony scrambled up, standing now, eyes still wide from disbelief. She reached her hand out slightly, trying to decide whether or not to run her fingers over him which would then allow her to know if it was a hallucination or not. She hoped deeply it was the latter. The only differences she could see in him were the cast on his arm, and the scar on his cheek. Both most likley from fighting back home.
"J-josh...?"

Josh chuckled at her reaction. It looked as if she didn't even believe he was really here. Like he was some sort of hallucination or something. Wow. Josh laughed a bit as she studdered out his name. "The one and only." He said taking the hand she had held out some. "Believe im here now?" He said catching on to what she was thinking really. This was either a really good thing or a really bad thing. Either she was happy to see him or she was unhappy to see him. With this kind of emotion Josh was kind of lost on what else to say. But he believed she was happy to see him, hopefully. "I wanted to come back...to explain why i had to go so sudden...and...what my future here holds...." He shrugged letting go of her hand and folding his arms.

Once Josh had taken her hand, and Ebony realized this wasn't some sick dream, she let go a breath that she didn't even know she was holding. He must have gotten a break from back home, if he was here. Either that, or they were allowing him to leave so that his injuries could heal. But, for some reason she didn't care how he was here, she was just happy he was.
When he let go of her hand, she also folded her arms across her chest, not really knowing what to do with them.
"So what's the explanation?"

Josh didn't really know what the future held for him. How the war would turn out after this, if things would die down or spike back up, once that happened, Josh would most likely know what would happen, either he'd be free to go as he pleases, or he'd be stationed back home pernamently till the whole thing was delt with. But for now...Josh did have some strict orders. But he smiled some. "Well...obviously I don't have to be stationed back in Delatorr...seems things are starting to...quiet down there....but...I do have to continue my search for my sister....King's orders..." He shrugged. "But i figure, i can take a few breaks now and then...but i cant disobey orders...I cant just forget about my inital goal...well my other inital goal." He chuckled some, knowing his other goal was to get her to like him even as a friend, seemed that goal was succeeded.

Ebony listened intently as Josh went on about his future in Cocoon. She figured as much that he wouldn't be able to stay for very long. But, he could have at least told her that there could be complications withthe war back home. She didn't know the exact details about the war, and if he was really needed at any point.
"Yeah, I figured you would have to leave soon if you did come back...Wait...what do you mean 'other initial goal'?"

Josh and his big mouth. Did he really have to slip up like that? If Josh told her what he was talking about he would have to be prepared for a smack or two...maybe. Josh chuckled a bit scratching the back of his head nervously. "Who said anything about another goal?" he started to talk quick, totally trying to cover his slip up mistake. "Oh and another accomplishment for myself." He was now trying to change the subject, probably failing at it, but it was worth a try none the less. "You can no longer call me sergent raines....I'll take Commander Raines though." A distraction, because he sure wasn't going to tell Ebony his other goal was to get her to like him.
((i swear my posts will get longer!))

Ebony could easily tell that josh was trying to dodge telling her his "other initial goal." He was obviously trying to keep it a secret. And he was failing horribly. She jsut merely leaned back and cocked an eyebrow as Josh tried to dodge the subject. She would figure out sooner or later.
"Ok then, Commander, mind telling me what that goal of yours was now? And don't even think of changing the subject."

Josh simply smiled. "Since when are you interested in my personal goals?" He asked trying to make her DROP IT. Of course Josh could easily make something up if he really wanted to. "You really wanna know eh?" Josh chuckled a bit looking out at the water. Why couldn't this be a nice reunion? Not a questioning one. "Well one goal was to find my sister...the other was to....erm....how to i put this into light terms?" He finally gave in now Rubbing the back of his head he sighed. "I wanted you to like me...and not throw me off a cliff...and when i say like i mean...more than an aquaintence but...somewhere around a friend ya know?" a little stretch of the truth never hurt anyone.

Ebony quietly listened as Josh spoke. She had remembered him talking about his sister when they had first met, and earlier when he was talking about the future. But...when he got to revealing his goal...him wanting to try and make her like him, her breath slightly hitched unconsciously...But went back to normal as soon as she heard the word "friend." She felt...slightly dejected for some reason that never fully came to mind.
"Ah...I see...Well, you succeeded."
Ebony turned back towards the ocean and sat down once more, her legs dangling off the edge. She didn't want Josh to see the slight frown that had suddenly appeared on her lips.
"So...what do you plan on doing now at the moment?"

Josh smiled slight at her words. So he succeeded did he? Well...his fake goal he succeeded, now for the real goal, to have her like him. More than a friend. Josh was plotting on how to say all that before her next question caught him off guard. What was he planning on doing? Josh hadn't really thought that far ahead. He cocked his head to the side like a puppy and rubbed his chin with his fingers. "Hm.....I never really thought about what i would do now." He said before sitting next to her letting his legs dangle over the dock. "I think I'm going to stay here awhile...wait for this-" He held up his casted arm. "-To heal up some before i go charging into other worlds...."
Josh shrugged some wanting to tell her so much more than what he had said. Maybe...he should. No dumb idea. She might not feel the same way, slap him, and walk off and wish he had never come back. Take things slow Josh...he told himself. "I hope I can get another chance at taking you out...last time...it didn't go so well." He chuckled some looking at her now, he didn't even realize he was staring at her.

"Heh...yeah, maybe. If your lucky."
Ebony could feel the edges of mouth turn towards the sky, as they moved into a small smile. She felt...happy that he would be staying awhile. For some reason, those last few days when he was gone felt lonelier than they normally did. She shook her head slightly still smiling. When she was with Josh, she felt content. Usually she just meandered her way through the passing days like she was in a never-ending routine. But, then fate decided to step in, as it always usually does.
Ebony felt the greatest urge to lean over and lay her head against Josh's shoulder. She quickly degraded the thought, not wanting him to know he had achieved more than his goal. She had never really shown affection in her life. Only the few times, when she had to help support some of the other younger street kids did she ever show a certain type of love for anyone. She wondered...if that would ever change.

Josh chuckled and raised a brow at her response. "If I'm lucky? Well...if thats the case, then hopefully lady luck in on my side." He grinned still looking at her but he noticed before that he was staring so he tried to change it up a bit. A few swift looks out to the water, back to the beach, back to Ebony and start all over again. Josh sighed some as now he started down at the water below them. "Well....I'm not leaving anytime soon, thats been established...How was your....erm....Josh Free Vacation these past few days?" He asked curious, and trying to make light conversation so things wouldn't just go silent and hit akward. "Anything exciting happen?" He chuckled a bit.
Unnoticingly he inched a little closer to Ebony, not enough for anyone to notice, but if this kept up, well then someone would notice. Probably Ebony herself. Which brought him to wonder what she was thinking again...how did she feel about Josh?
