Cocoon...? Must've made a few miscalculations on his coordinates when he traveled from his home world of Delatorr to try and find Gaia, but now...he was no where near Gaia, he was in Cocoon! Who was HE to be exact? His name was Joshua Raines, Sergent J. Raines of the Delatorr army. So why was he world hopping instead of protecting his home world from the war that was going on? In fact his little sister had ditched out on his home world to be on her own, of course she was so oblivious to any danger on any other worlds, so Josh figured he'd better find her before it was too late for her to even save herself. She could trip over a shoe lace and well somehow she'd find a way to die.
Josh stared around, things didn't look so peachy here either. In the distance he saw tons of soldiers, not like him though. They were all covered and he over heard they were called PSICOM. Weird name. So Josh figured, he'd rest up before trying to find Gaia. He walked along the streets before a soldier called out at him. Apparently new comers weren't exactly welcome. Then came the gun fire, they said something about purging him and josh just smirked as he pulled his gunblade out of the pouch that laid across his back. This would be entertaining.

Ebony walked down the streets, whistling. It was another gorgeous day that was ruined by work, but she didn't mind. It gave her some thing to do, and money so that she could actually live. It was just another ordinary day for her. Wake up, get dressed, eat breakfast, and go do some research for the organization she worked for. She was on her lunch break now, and her messenger bag was full of books that had to be analyzed. That is, until she saw the little brawl that about to take place. It looked like the soldiers were going to fire at some innocent person, again. They guy seemed to be harmless enough, well except for the fact that he was holding a gunblade. She walked up to one of the farther back soldiers and tapped him on the shoulder.
"Hey, what's going on here?"
The soldier turned around quickly and looked at the girl.
"He does not belong here. We have to get rid of him just in case he is a L'Cie."
Great, another "purging." Did these always have to happen? People were so paranoid these days.
"Alright then. But, do you mind if I take a look at him for a second? I'm a researcher, and this may help in my studying."
The soldier studyed her for a moment before nodded and motioning for the soldiers to back away. Ebony walked over until she was a few steps away from the newcomer. This would be interesting indeed.
"You can put your weapon away. They won't hurt you, for now that is."

Josh could have handled these guys easily. Like taking candy from a baby. He was an experienced soldier! Not some random weak person off the streets. Josh gripped his gunblade as he waited for open fire, but..nothing happened. They just kinda stood there in fighting position but...no fighting happened. Then that girl walked up to one of the soldiers in the back then headed towards him. What?! The soldiers were backing off? Some fight he was going to get. Whatever.
"You can put your weapon away. They won't hurt you, for now that is."
Josh didn't know what to do, part of him was telling him to keep it out, the other was saying it was safe...for now. He simply sight and put his gunblade back in the pouch that hung on his back. "So...What's with the soldiers? Do they get hostile when they see someone or what?" He asked raising an eyebrow. "Some Army..." He mumbled some.

Ebony heard him loud and clear, and she silently chuckled under her breath. Boy did he hit it head on.
"Yeah, you could say something like that. The Army has to be especially careful at this time and age, but that is another story for another time."
Ebony paused for a moment, and studied this guy. He seemed normal enough. Well, normal in her eyes. Seeing a weapon on someone was customary in her Escort job. Heck, she even had a dagger hidden in her boot!
"Okay, well we can explain this whole situation in the middle of the street, or you can follow me back to my 'workshop' and I'll explain it there. So, which will it be?"

Josh was almost bummed he didn't get a chance to show off his...mad skills infront of god and everybody on this world. With a smirk he smiled to himself before glancing back towards Ebony. His green eyes seemed to see right through her as if he were trying to read her face, but nothing came to him. "I'd like to hear this story of yours...and I really don't want to be targeted again for now...so I'll follow you." He shrugged his shoulders up then down before he nodded his head some. "Maybe I'll get to know the layout of this world soon before I leave." Josh grinned some. "Oh...I've been very rude...I haven't introduced myself properly. My name is Joshua Raines, Sergent J. Raines if you prefer a more formal lable."
Josh seemed pleased with the whole Sergent lable to his name now. He was a good rank in Delatorr's army, seeing as he was the Kings son it was expected of him to do a good job, that way people had a respect for him in the future when either he or his sister took over Delatorr's royal throne.

Ebony grinned and turned around after he had introduced himeslf, heading back towards the research facility.
"I'm Ebony. Nothing special. Follow me, Joshua."
Ebony started walking back towards the facility, hands behind her head and whistling once again. Every now and then, she would glace at the soldiers that were pretty much stationed everywhere, but that was normal in Cocoon. As they say, you can't be too careful. Finally, after a good ten minute trek, the two finally made it back to the facility and Ebony entered. She waved at any of the other older employees she had befriended and headed off to her office. Once there, she sat down, and motioned for Josh to do the same.
"So, want to tell me why you here?"

"I'm Ebony. Nothing special. Follow me, Joshua."
Josh nodded acknowledging her name with a grin. "It's nice to meet you Ebony...and you can just call me Josh." He shrugged some following her. The walk seemed a little ways, nothing a soldier couldn't handle though. A good ten minutes passed, Josh just scanned the area, staring at all the soldiers. What was wrong here? Was this world in a war just like his? Soldiers stationed on every street corner. Finally inside Ebony's work space Josh walked in and was confronted with a question.
"So, want to tell me why you here?"
That caught him a little off guard, he wasn't supposed to even be here in Cocoon. He sat down to think of how to answer. "I took a wrong...turn while traveling." Josh shrugged some. "I was looking for a world called Gaia, and I got the wrong coordinates and ended up here on Cocoon. I'm searching for my sister." He sighed, finding Repa would be like finding a needle in a haystack, so many worlds out there, Josh could search for the rest of his life and never find one trace of her. Oh well. If it came to that, at least he tried. "So whats going on on this world? Is there a war or something? Or do soldiers normally stalk every single block."

Ebony looked down, going over her thoughts and words in her head. She came up with a simple understanding of everything that needed to be explained and started.
"I guess you could call it a war of sorts. There is a type of person in our world that is, in a sense, feared. They are called L'Cie. Beings that are branded by Fal'Cie. Fal'Cie brand these people to do their bidding, almost as if the L'Cie were their sevants. L'Cie are given a task, or a Focus as it is called, to go out and complete. They have a certain time to complete their Focus before they either crystalize, or go Cie'th. If they complete their Focus in the time required, they crystallize, and 'sleep' until asked to awaken once more. If not, they became a mindless monster called a Cie'th. Most people fear L'Cie, and all of those soldiers out there, are searching for the L'Cie, determined to rid the world of them. I one of the very few who do not fear the L'Cie."
Ebony leaned back in her chair after her short explanation. It had been a while since she had to report anything to anyone, besides her superiors. It felt...weird, explaining something so seemingly simple to someone she had just met about twenty minutes ago.

Josh sat quietly and listened to her explination. He analyzed everything she said, something seemed to spark, like he'd heard this before. But he didn't remember, maybe it was some old legend or story their father told them to try and be...educational. "The Fal'cie? L'cie? This sounds familiar...like i've heard it some where...nothing to do with my world but...a terror to some people right?" He said looking at Ebony. She must know alot about these Fal'cie and L'cie things. "you dont fear these focus l'cie? Brave, seeing as everyone else is terrified so it seems to have all of Cocoon's army out searching for them" Josh shrugged. It almost seemed silly seeing how many soldiers were out and about watching the streets.
"Not that im complaining about your world here. There are just things we see differently of course." Josh added in a few moments later seeing as his words might be a little offensive to some. "But i know the feeling i suppose. My home world, Delatorr, a small world, is in the middle of a civil war....some stupid rebel rallying up our citizens." He shook his head cutting off his useless story.

"It doesn't matter if everyone else is terrified. I can take care of myself, and that's all the really matters."
Ebony was a loner. She cared only for herself, and if need be, the very few people she cared about. But, she still listened as Josj continued on about his hometown being in a civil war. In a way, that was what was going on here, in Cocoon.
"Well, sadly, the only way that will be resolved is if either one of the forces surrenders, or both just decide to make peace."
Ebony knew that that really didn't help the situation much, but to put it plainly, that was the truth. There are very few ways to easily end any type of war. Ebony knew that already.

Josh just shrugged a little at her comment about everyone else being afraid. As long as she kept herself safe she didn't have anything to worry about, Josh was sure that she could do that. He wondered a bit what his take would be if he lived here. Fear the L'cie or just go on with life. Seemed he really didn't care all that much because he knew nothing of what l'cie realy were or what the fal'cie was. Thats why he kept silent. Then the comment of one side giving up or making peace went into his head. There wouldn't be any peace for awhile in his home world. The people there were getting hostile, and over what really? Were they revolting against having a king? No, that wasn't it. In fact, no one really knew the answer, there were so many rumors why spread around it just got annoying. "Well...hopefully both our worlds find peace soon." He nodded some folding his arms across his chest as he sat there.
"I don't suppose you could tell me where I could find a place to stay? Like a hotel around here?" Josh asked finally standing up. "I'd much rather wait a bit before I depart for Gaia."

Ebony grinned at Josh's comment of needing a place to stay. She kenw the perfect place.
"In fact, I do know a place. It's an inn called 'The Sanctuary.' The owners were smart to name it that since they get a lot of customers hoping for a safe place to stay. I live there. They usually have at least one room open on normal weeks. I can show you it once I'm done here, if that's alright."
The owners always told herto recommend their inn if she ever found someone she could actually recommend the place to. She could just call this 'paying them back', even though she did pay her rent.

Well she was helpful. Josh nodded a bit. The place sounded nice, hopefully they had a room. Honestly Josh was so tired from his wandering lately, he was starting to become like his deceased older brother who nearly worked himself to death. Coming back to reality... "If its going to take you awhile, I could always roam the city and come back so im not bothering you." He suggested with a shrug. Good thing he had come prepared. He had a money card, enough to last him a long time, but eventually he would have to stop back home to stock up once again, unless he found what he was looking for. Doubt that would happen anytime soon. "Thank you for being so...hospitable towards me." Josh grinned some.

Ebony pulled out the book she needed from her bag, as Josh told her his plans to roam the city. Once she had set everything up the way it needed to be, she glanced up at Josh.
"Alright. But, be sure to be careful of the soldiers. If I'm not there to stop them, you most likely will be ambushed once again. If your safe by then, come back and meet me here. I'm sure you remember the way, correct. And, you should be glad I am being hospitable. I usually don't do this for a complete stranger, but I'll make an exception just for you today."
And with that, Ebony went right back to her work, researching anything that needed to be researched.

Josh chuckled a little. Josh would enjoy taking on a few soldiers if he had too, it'd pass the time thats for sure. But he knew that probably wouldn't be a good idea if he was going to be staying in this area for a few days or so. "I'm sure I can handle myself." He nodded some rerunning the steps he took to get from where he first was, to this office, it was placed good in his memory. He would get back here in one piece he thought. "When would you like me to be back here by?" Josh asked as he started fiddling with his dog tag necklace before tucking it behind the collar of his soldier uniform. "Well thanks again. Im greatful for all this assistance"
