“Yeah, always thought you were SOLDIER material, before things got crazy I thought we’d be working together if you applied…but then everything went wrong, Sephiroth, Angeal, Genesis…if that hadn’t of happened you’d be a SOLDIER 1st class, got the guts, power and brains for it that’s for sure. Besides you’re the only one alive that can defeat Sephiroth...”
“I think in your own way you thanked me, I knew. Besides, you kept me going through all that, gave me the motivation to keep fighting, even if I didn’t know what to do anymore…”
“I don’t think anything you could ever do would make me hate you, and I’m not a hating sort of guy, especially to my best friend!” “But out of curiosity…why do you think I would hate you?”
Cloud never faced Zack as he was saying all this to him. It was just a big problem for Cloud to open up to people. Tifa would know that. It took Cloud years before he even started opening up to her. He felt like he was betraying his best friend though. By keeping this huge secret from Zack. But he just was not ready to give Zack the news just yet....The guy had just gotten back from the Life Stream....He didn't want to give Zack any emotional pain....And this would most likely trigger that....
"Zack...I..I'm just not ready to tell you yet....There is some thing wrong....Just give me the time to collect myself...Finding you and Aerith both back, is enough to lift my spirits...You needn't to worry about me though...."
That was all he could say at this moment....Cloud still didn't turn around to face his friend as he said all that. He just couldn't look Zack in the eyes as that was said....He hoped deep down that Zack understood all this....And if Cloud thought that Zack knew him, then Zack would no longer pry at the subject....It would just make Cloud feel even worse....
"Thank you for that....About Soldier....But I know I would have never made it....Angeal or some one would've seen that....That I was just too weak....Back then of course....So I don't think your one vote is enough for me to have gotten in....And after all that was done between us...After you said....That Soldier was just a den of monsters....I never tried to go back....Oh, except with that one time I thought I was you....But other than that.....No....That's why I was not talking to Tifa....I was scared she would be ashamed that I was only an Infantryman....I told her I'd be a Soldier the next time she saw me....And that didn't happen...."
Cloud looked down while he was still not facing Zack and looked at his brand....It was faded again....And his sick feeling was gone.....He felt fine for now. But he still did not feel fine about keeping the secret from Zack.....Knowing Zack though, he would find out soon enough....Some thing would happen and he would know everything.....

::...The Puppy...:: [/color][/u] Your gonna be my…Living Legacy. dramatic Zack knew how hard it was for Cloud to express himself, opening up had always seemed to be tough for him. Zack was the complete opposite, so he wasn’t quite sure how to get him to open up all the time. He had learned that Cloud would open up when he wanted to and there would be no forcing him to do so before he chose to. So he never really pried, if Cloud wanted to talk to him he’d always be there for him. Just as he thought Cloud wasn’t ready, he stated that himself. He understood, and just like before he would let it slide. Just knowing Cloud had brought it up meant something to him. Raising up his gloved hand he placed it on Cloud’s shoulder and smiled to him. “Its ok Cloud, I understand, but when your ready to tell me I’ll be here to listen ok?” When Cloud told him he didn’t need to worry Zack just shook his head, “I’ll try not to worry, but don’t think I’m not there for ya, I’m always here.” He said smiling, he wasn’t the kind to needlessly worry, but when Cloud even mentioned something was wrong something was really wrong, and that worried him. Then he dropped it and listened again when Cloud started talking for the second time. He shook his head, “That’s not true, Angeal appreciated power, no matter how raw it was. Besides you hadn’t been enhanced at all and you showed tremendous strength, that’s something!” He had known Cloud was ashamed, that was why he hadn’t taken off his helmet…it made sense, but why he was ashamed Zack didn’t know. It was hard getting into SOLDIER, he had gotten in because Angeal had saw something in him and helped him along the way. He could have done that for Cloud, and would have, except after everything had gone wrong SOLDIER had lost its spark. It showed itself for what it truly was…a den of monsters. “Really I’m glad you didn’t get involved, if you had…well things could have gone way worse for you then they did, which is a scary thought.”
He didn’t pry about anything, instead he glanced around and put his hands on his waist. “I’m just glad were all alive now! I mean…I’m not sure why but here we are talking again! Never thought that would happen…” |

Cloud nodded....At least he got to tell Zack that there was some thing bothering him....Instead of hiding his emotions....But what scared Cloud the most, was when Zack found out about it....What would really happen? He didn't want Zack to go AWOL on the Fal'Cie...That's what Cloud was scared of.
"Me to man....Me too....." Cloud turned around to face his friend....And smiled....And tried to remain calm. Still Cloud had no idea that Zack already knew. And that was why he was here in the first place. But Cloud wouldn't know any way....Since Zack seemed to not have told him the real reason he was back....
"Hey Zack...Do you know why you were brought back...?" This would be fun...not. Cloud had no idea that maybe Zack would do the same thing to him....And lie...Because well, if Cloud didn't tell Zack, why should Zack tell him? But this was not too bad...Because sooner or later they would both know the entire truth about this...Cloud would eventually tell Zack everything...And then it would be up to Zack to keep sane.....

::...The Puppy...:: [/color][/u] Your gonna be my…Living Legacy. Zack had one thought on life, keep smiling and hope for the best while planning for the worst. It was easier said then done that was for sure. I was hard to keep a positive outlook on things, or at least it had been before he had died the first time, with the Army and Turks chasing him, he hadn’t had any reason to keep going except to see Aerith and give Cloud a chance to live. He had failed so see Aerith, much to his grief, but he had given Cloud that chance, which he was thankful for. It felt good knowing he had helped out his best friend that way. He was glad he had had a chance to tell Cloud what he had been able to, especially about SOLDIER. Still he couldn’t help but feel responsible for all the crap Cloud had gone through. If he hadn’t made the connection of Jenova would Sephiroth have gone crazy like he had? Maybe not…although he could never be sure. When Cloud asked if he knew why he had been brought back he glanced away for a minute. He knew about Cloud, but…what should he say? He wanted Cloud to tell him when he felt ready, so for right now he wouldn’t bring it up. Lying was easier then he had thought it would be. “Well not really, I guess its for a second chance at life? I’m not sure, maybe I’ll find out eventually.” He said, trying to keep the happiness in his voice, but it was hard. He didn’t know all the details, after all it was somewhat fuzzy, but he still knew the general reason. Holding out the truth from Cloud felt wrong, but it was better in the long run. He didn’t look like he was lying, Zack was an honest person, but from years in ShinRa he also knew how to be natural when asked something he couldn’t say the truth or something he had to lie about. Blue eyes didn’t meet his all the way though, instead he looked away a bit and thought about what the future would hold. Would anything be right? Why had he had to be brought back just to probably loose his life again? He wasn’t to bothered by the fact he might have to die again, but it was mean for to be brought back knowing you might die again, and soon. This time he would tell Aerith he loved her! Instead of saying anything else about it though he just forced a cheery smile on his face and turned to look at Cloud again. “I guess it doesn’t matter why as long as I’m back eh? Better not test fate and question why.” He said slowly before cracking his neck and looking at Cloud. Did he believe that he didn’t know? He felt horrible, but he would be able to tell him that he knew soon enough. Better to just leave it alone and talk to Aerith about it. She would have an answer to the questions he had about the fal’cie, l’cie and the end of the world. Would it be totally destroyed? Or would just the people be destroyed? He wasn’t sure…hopefully everything wouldn’t be wiped out. |

::...The Puppy...:: [/color][/u] Your gonna be my…Living Legacy. Zack stood there deep in thought, as was Cloud. They both seemed to be reminiscing about the past, but in a good way or a bad? He himself wouldn't change the events to meeting Cloud, but the ones after...such as Sephiroth going crazy, Angeal and Genesis deserting, along with the army chasing them down...well those things he wished had been different. And yet what might he have been doing right now if they hadn't happened? Never-ending plodding along working for ShinRa? Still feeling bad for the ruin he caused in people's lives? He wasn't sure, maybe he would have simply stepped out of the line of work and held a normal life. Why he was thinking about it was beyond him. Well now he had a new chance, just because it might be messed up shouldn't stop him. At any rate he was going to push on with his life. When Cloud spoke his name he came out of his trance like state. Glancing at him he smiled, “Yeah? What’s up?” He asked, what was up now? He shifted his weight to his left leg and waited for Cloud to tell him what he wanted to say. What would it be? It almost seemed like something was bothering him. What could it be this time? He was worried about his friend. Cloud got anxious about a lot of things he didn't need to beat himself up so bad for. Plus now he had this new huge thing that made him probably dip down into a bit of depression a lot of days. He felt horrible for Cloud. Why had it been him that was chosen? Hadn't the guy already been through enough? For real, why did he have to have this on his plate as well? He wished it could have been somebody else...but at the same time, who else could have put up with this and still had any sanity whatsoever left? None he could think of...maybe the fal'cie had picked the strongest person they could find... |

"I'm glad you're back...." Cloud smiled then. He didn't want to have any more grief on the guy before him....Zack was probably already asking questions in his mind about why he was here and everything. Cloud then thought maybe he should show more happy emotions....And not despair....Not loss of friendship....Cloud knew Zack would understand now if he told Zack everything....But he just couldn't.
What was so hard about it? "Just tell him....And you'll feel better...." But even with that said in his own mind, Cloud couldn't....He didn't want Zack to think he would have to protect him....Which is exactly why Zack was back....Hopefully soon. They would both know everything and it would all be okay....But then again it would not be okay....Even with Zack knowing....Cloud would still have to do that next step....And that was the bad thing....

He smiled a big smile and ruffled Cloud’s hair again. “Damn so am I!” He said happily before looking around, “Hey you wanna go?” He asked quickly before glancing around again. Something had to go wrong…he was so sure of it. Everything going right, Aerith being alive as well, Cloud being here and being happy he was back. Something was bound to happen, he just hoped it didn’t. Instead of thinking about it he shook his head and glanced at Cloud. “Hey, where ya gonna have your wedding?” He wondered where they were going to have it. He was a guy, so he didn’t care about all the little things, but he was interested in the location. Maybe one day Cloud would be returning the favor of being in his own wedding. He blushed at the thought, he was going to have to TALK to the woman he loved before he thought that was going to happen. [its ok so is mine xD] |

::...The Puppy...:: [/color][/u] Your gonna be my…Living Legacy. He smiled, “So I get to finally see the famous bar hmm?” He started walking down the hallway. It was so familiar to him, even if it was broken down more in the church. His hand brushed up against a few of the tops of the pews as he walked down the hallway. Maybe one day he would be walking down these very isles with a certain brown haired girl at his side… The thought made him happy. He looked at Cloud in joy. “No way you’re gonna have it here?? That’s great!” Glancing around with an appraising eye he nodded, “Yeah the place has really gone downhill, it was never exactly shining but it was in a lot better shape the last time I was here…” He couldn’t wait for them to get married. “I could help out with the work! I’ll do anything to help out that I can do!” energetically he spoke out. Maybe he wasn’t exactly a carpenter…still, he knew a few things about building. When Cloud opened up about his fear of a large crowds. He remembered that about him, maybe he could help Cloud through that though. “Well, I can understand not wanting a huge wedding, but it can’t be so bad to have a big wedding. The only people that would be coming are your friend’s right?” He put a hand on Cloud’s shoulder as they walked, “The past is the past, we were all different back then. I know I had a lot of growing up to do.” Silence fell for a few seconds as they were both deep in thought. He really did have a lot of growing up to do back then. He probably still did, but not quite so much. He was however, jarred out of thought by Cloud speaking once again. Cloud’s father…? He scratched his head and mused, “You don’t know anything about him? It would probably be hard…but yeah! Lets do it!” |

"I guess it won't be that bad....Tifa told me the same thing....I'll manage some how..."
“The past is the past, we were all different back then. I know I had a lot of growing up to do.” He was so right about that. Cloud knew he was so different back then...They all were....Even Tifa.

“You don’t know anything about him? It would probably be hard…but yeah! Lets do it!”
"You'd help me with that? Zack...I so owe you one...." He turned around then and bit his lip. Great...Now he wanted to tell Zack everything....Now that Zack was gonna help him with a very hard task. But some thing would always hold Cloud back from telling his best friend....He just got out of the Life Stream....He couldn't tell Zack now....Not right now any way. Thank goodness that he didn't get sick too badly....

::...The Puppy...:: [/color][/u] Your gonna be my…Living Legacy. He smiled and met Cloud's eyes when he sighed and said Tifa had said the same thing. "She's right! And besides, you'll have me there to beat up anyone that tries to show up and ruin anything." He said with a chuckle. He was joking, but at the same time he was serious. It was Cloud and Tifa's wedding, someway, something was going to try to mess it up, everything good was messed up with something bad. That's just the way things went. Shrugging, he glanced over to the side as they reached the door. Pushing it open, it scrapped against the cement beneath the door. "Well I'm just glad the past can stay back there, now that Aerith is back I don't have to think about anything that happened back then. It was all messed up anyway." He nodded at Cloud, indeed he had grown up, probably way more then he had. They weren't boys anymore that's for sure. He was glad, things had been more simple back then, but he had also been really immature. At least now they could both be at the same level, although he still acted like he was 16 sometimes. What fun was it to act your age all the time? Zack was glad that Cloud was excited about finding out about his father. He just hoped they actually learned something and it wasn't a bust. But where to go for information? For some reason he thought ShinRa would know something. Maybe he should ask Reno to check the files that were back from that time. It was what...20 years previous? Probably no one from the Turks would have been around back then, but the old leader, Veld, might have told something to Tseng. He shook his head, "No Cloud, you don't owe me one. You're taking me in and helping me, besides we're friends! I don't think you owe me anything, we just keep an eye out for each other." He waited for Cloud to walk through the open door and smiled at him. He really meant that, they were friends, and nothing would ever take that away. |

::...The Puppy...:: [/color][/u] Your gonna be my…Living Legacy. Anything to get his friend to smile. Cloud wasn’t smiling as much lately, something that grieved him to realize. But how could he help? Truly help? Sure he could cheer him up for a few seconds, blab some humor and make him smile, but how could he truly help? He set his jaw when he realized the only way was to see Sephiroth destroyed once and for all. Not exactly an easy feat, but one that would be appreciated by all.
He thought yet again of the powers he had gained while in the lifestream. Would they help against Sephiroth? Would anything be able to truly defeat him? He seemed to know the weaknesses of everyone, everything. How could they defeat him? He wouldn’t stop trying until things were good again. Cloud and Tifa were married and Sephiroth and his remnants weren’t on the rampage any more. Easier said then done, but he wouldn’t allow anything to stop him. “Hey man, smile! The past is hard to keep there, but its worth putting the bad things behind you.”
Zack knew how Cloud felt. His own parents were…in all he knew, dead. Gongaga was leveled, or had been when he had last visited. The house he had grown up in had been in ruins. No one was there, deserted in a time obviously bent on the ruin of his hometown. He didn’t understand why Gongaga would have been targeted. After all the sleepy country village hadn’t had anything to do with ShinRa or Sephiroth or anything. Instead of telling Cloud all the things he was thinking he only clasped a hand on his shoulder and tried to smile, falling just short. “I understand why you would want to know what happened. I feel the same about my parents, though Gongaga was leveled, I know nothing of their fate…it’s a heartbreaking thought. Not knowing.”
For Zack that was just about as serious as he got, as Cloud could probably see with the pinched expression on his face he tried hard to mask. When Cloud mentioned that his mom had talked about ShinRa and cried at night Zack fell into thought. “ShinRa was the cause of much heartache; could it be that if we poked through some of ShinRa’s files we might find something? I know you don’t exactly like the Turks, but if I asked about it they would probably help me.” He shrugged a bit, eyes roving around, keeping watch on the surroundings. “I mean, its worth a shot right?”

He wanted a smile? Really? Cloud was not in the mood to smile. He had laughed and smiled every now and then. But he could not remain happy as he wished to be. Things were a bit more complicated then that. His life sure was. He had to smile more though on the out side at least. He used to be so good to hide his emotions when he was supposedly in Soldier.....He had to. Because emotions were a sign of weakness....He wanted a smile....But Zack should know he was saying that to the wrong person. Cloud only frowned as he looked down. "It's not easy for me to just smile you know that. Everyone knows that. I'll smile after I see Sephiroth dead at my feet.....Until then...." That was a lie....He would never smile. Since of what he was. A Li'Cie. He still had no idea that Zack knew any thing. Cloud was very oblivious...He wouldn't know that Zack knew what he was or that this was why Zack was even here.... At least Zack knew his father.... "You knew him though. I never knew my father. All I know is what I told you. All I see in my village is a head stone where his grave is....There is not even a name on it. Worn away by time. Turks? Zack, I don't know about this....They can not be trusted....." Cloud was not going to say any thing but he had to...He hated the Turks! He never trusted them. All they did ever was ask his help once to prevent JENOVA from returning and all it got him right was Sephiroth.....And Cloud was not going to help them ever again....His eyes gave Zack a determined look on his face. That was it. Nothing else. Cloud was not going to go down that path again with the Turks.
