Akai
"I can do everything. Maybe not expertly, but I can do it."
Custom Title: Hero of Light
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Family: Akai has no family, but adopted the other Heroes of Light as a sort of Pseudo-Family.
Race: Human
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Home World: Gaia (FF1)
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Job: Red Mage / Wandering Mercenary
Items: Akai's items mostly consist of Ethers and other recovery items. He sees no reason to carry Potions, however, as he feels that casting cure on himself is more efficient.
Accessories: Akai's accessories are his Red Cap (also known as his Awesome Hat), his Red Jacket, his Zephyr Cape, and his Giant's Gloves. Each item is heavily enchanted. The Red Cap makes him tougher and enhances his physical capabilities. The Red Jacket does much the same, but also enhances his spell power and offers a resistance to Fire. His Zephyr Cape has a wind spirit bound to it, serving mostly to lighten the material. His Giant's Gloves auto-cast the Saber spell upon him, greatly increasing his physical power while wearing them.
Appearance: This white haired teenager is a lean, agile warrior, exemplifying a balance between speed and strength. Despite his youth, his body is crisscrossed with scares under his clothing, signs of the damage he took to protect his allies against the Four Fiends. His clothing is simplistic and plain, but possesses an understated sense of style. He wears a tight fitting red tunic and trousers, form fitting and comfortable. Over this comes his Red Jacket, in actuality a crimson vest. His Zephyr Cape is draped over his shoulders, the crimson mantle serving as insulation against the cold, while his Red Cap is adorned with a white feather.
Personality: Personal Bearing: Akai doesn't really care about 'good and evil' and is more concerned with style and skill. He cares about being self sufficient and he constantly tries to test himself in combat. He also constantly seeks to be more stylish, polishing his combat style into something aesthetically appealing, turning combat into a dance. To this end he often participates in
Interactions with others: Red Mage is very much focused on himself, and is a classic Stoic, rarely showing his emotions and somewhat aloof from others. Despite his relatively cold exterior, he has a penchant for snarkiness and genre savvy that naturally causes conflicts with Touzoku, the primary target of his sniping. He is easily the most distant of the Light Warriors, despite the fact that he can be described as the most famous, simply because his constant traveling and fighting monsters keeps him in the public eye.
History: Legends on Gaia tell of a sextet of heroes. Heroes who brought the world from darkness into light, slaying the Four Fiends sent by Chaos to destroy the world and bring it under his dominion. The legends tell the story of the heroes as they battled the forces of darkness.
Unfortunately, the legends lied a bit. Of the six warriors, only three were consciously going about it because of destiny. Two were doing it for the fame and fortune. One did it because he just wanted to challenge himself. That one is Akai.
Akai joined the group in Pravoka, along with his traveling companion Genkotsu, assisting the other Heroes against the pirate crew that was harassing the town and uniting the last of the Four Crystals. Despite the group being fated heroes, Akai actually spent more time battling monsters than paying attention to the plot, determined to out magic Kuroi in an attempt to impress Shiroi. Despite his focus on killing things, he remained a steadfast pillar of strength to the party, even in the face of the nearly devastating death of Genkotsu (he got better).
In the after math of the adventure, Akai became a wandering mercenary. He had no real need for the money, but refused to settle down, finding and fighting many powerful monsters.
Abilities: Red Mage: Akai is a Red Mage, giving him access to both Black and White magic.
Dualcast: Akai's signature ability is to cast two spells at once, though both spells have an increased mana-drain compared to normal, multiplying the manacost by 1.25x normal.
Twin Blades: Akai picked this skill up while observing Genkotsu, emulating a two weapon fighting style. Akai isn't a master of it by a long shot, but he's able to wield two weapons at once.
Summons: Akai completely lacks Summons, as his world lacks them.
Magic: Akai's repertoire of spells is limited, with him preferring to have buffs and healing/debuff removal spells over damaging magic. He also strongly favors the White School of magic, but possesses a few choice Black School spells.
His spell list currently includes:
Lv 1: Cure, Blink, Sleep
Lv 2: Blindna, Temper, NulShock
Lv 3: Cura, NulBlaze, Hold
Lv 4: Poisona, Nulfrost, Haste
Lv 5: Curaga, Slowra, Life
Lv 6: Exit, Protera, Invisra
Lv 7: NulDeath
Strengths: Akai's greatest strength is his versatility, with spells and blades in accord to wreak havoc on his enemies. He is a particularly frightening melee combatant if given the time to prepare, proving very difficult to put down as he can cast multiple spells at the same time.
Weaknesses: Akai has no real direct damage spells, and his healing spells are almost universally single target. This includes the majority of his buff spells as well, with only two very taxing spells being group buffs.
Weapon: Twin Blades, Lightbringer and Deathbringer - These twin blades refused the other Heroes, preventing them from being wielded by the others for various reasons. Lightbringer is the more powerful blade, a Holy element sword that not only pumps up Akai's physical attributes, but boosts his spell power. Deathbringer, however, boasts all of Lightbringer's capabilities (albeit at reduced strength) and a powerful death curse that sometimes triggers to outright kill those struck by it.
Crushes: Akai has had a thing for Touzoku since they first met in Pravoka. Not that he'd admit it.
Role Play Sample: The battle to decide the fate of the world had been going for the better part of half an hour, and Garland was just powering through everything the Light Warriors had. Kuroi and Shiroi had opened up the fight with Flare and Holy, while Akai himself had DualCast group buffs. The others had buffed themselves while Genkotsu just plain jumped into the fray, swiftly followed by the other warriors.
Six Warriors blessed by Bahamut himself, Fiend Slayers and Heroes all, against the Chaos Knight, a warrior that they'd fought and seemingly killed at the start of this whole event. Six Heroes who'd traveled the world and slain countless monsters (the only one of them who'd even attempted to count track the group's kills had given up some time before they slew Lich) were facing a warrior that hadn't been able to handle them before they'd fought anything more threatening than a ghoul.
It was an even match.
Despite their best efforts, Genkotsu had fallen. Shiroi was attempting to revive the monk now. Masurao was badly injured, and was tending his own wounds as Akai and Touzoku danced around their heavily armored foe, blades dancing in a whirlwind of steel. Finally, Garland got annoyed and kicked out at the athletic ninja, sending her to the floor. As the dark warrior brought his blade down for an over head smash, Akai smoothly intercepted the strike, his own blades crossed as he locked the twin weapons against the much larger sword. After a moment, he recognized the event about to unfold, and closed his eyes as twin spells of Fire and Ice blasted his foe. Over Garland's grunt of pain came a shout as Genkotsu reentered the brawl with a flying kick.
This battle wasn't over yet, and Akai expected it to last a long while yet as he wordlessly passed Touzoku an Ether and downed a second. Both fell into casting spells after downing their ethers, buffing themselves. The second wave of buffs had run out of juice, and they weren't done yet.
"Try not to let him take pages from Genkotsu, next time, slow poke." Akai said to his best friend.
"Next time I'll be sure to let him kick you instead." She replied as she tightened her grip on her blade and leaped into the fray, Akai right behind.
