Genesis read a copy of the note that he had sent Cloud aloud to himself. He expected Cloud to show up soon. Scanning down to the bottom of the letter he read aloud the last part an all too expected qoute from Lovless.
"Dreams of the morrow hath the shattered soul
Pride is lost
Wings stripped away, the end is nigh"
He sat on the street, awaiting the arrival of the blonde swordsman.

He looked up at Cloud as he stepped forward. He smiled, the peices of his plan where falling into place.
"Genesis?"
"Ah yes... The young Cloud has arriven at last. I bet your just full of questions, like how do I know about your secret? Well... Allow me to explain." He pushed the hair out of his face and stood up before continuing. "You see, a few years back the Goddess appeared to me, healed my wounds and granted me power for a task. With the power of the lifestream she shared with me the knowledge of the l'cie and the Fal'cie. She told me that the remnant of one of my friends would be the bearer of the mark. Naturaly I assumed that it was Zack. So I did a bit of espionage work." He laughed to himself,"But I was wrong. Upon my spy work I found that it was infact you. But what was most startling was your 'focus'." He pulled out his blade, "I will not let you destroy us all just to avoid becoming a Ceith!"
Charging the blade with energy, he qouted Loveless,
"To spare the sands, the seas, the skies
I offer thee this silent sacrifice!"
He stood there his blade bobbing about in his hand, "Heh... You're no better now than a plauge to us all! Either we end it when we can, or allow ourselves to be comsumed. Now the choice is yours will you die willingly, or fight to destroy us all?"

Cloud was just in shock...As to how much Genesis knew about him....He was too quiet as Genesis said all he had to say....And when Genesis ignited his sword....Cloud stood back....He would not allow him destroying them all? Was he trying to play hero here or some thing?
"Yeah...That pretty much sums it all up....But, Genesis, I can't turn Ceith.....I can't break any promises I've made....Besides...There might be a way to help the people of Gaia....Survive....I'm going to complete my focus rather you or Sephiroth disapproves of.....I'm not going to let some one else intimidate me....I've grown tired of this hero and villain thing....it gets rather old don't you think? Right now.....I'm offering you a truce, don't be like Sephiroth....We need all the strength we can get....Genesis.....You are more human than Sephiroth....You know about emotions....Pain, despair and sorrow....Think about it....If you do succeed....and kill me....Think about all those people that will stop at nothing to avenge me....Including Zack Fair.....Please....Don't let past hatred cloud you....You always have a choice...."

Cloud was significantly different from what he had once been. He had changed over the years to this person. It was amusing to Genesis to see this change occur over time and he scoffed, pushing the hair out of his face. "Heh... My how you have grown. Fine then. I must agree that I am not simply a monstrousity, and sometimes the Hero must be merciful. But in a case such as this I can not stand idly by. I need to see the strength of your resolve." He twisted the flaming sword through the air and pointed it at Cloud.
"Ripples form on the waters surface, the wandering soul knows no rest. Come now young Cloud, show me the power of your will to alter the fate handed to you!" Flicking the sword towards the ground he fired a few fire balls at the swordsman.
[CUE BATTLE MUSIC!]

"Please....Not you too.... No....Genesis.....I...I can't fight you....."
In a flurry of black feathers Genesis took to the sky and landed next to Cloud, grabbing hold of his glowing hand wrist. "Did you not understand me? I know all about this mark." He spat at the word 'mark', and flung his hand downward. "You must fight the power with your own will. Only then can you break the chains of your fate." What Cloud didn't know was what the goddess had asked of him when he saw her in the Lifestream. Her mouth never moved, but the words echoed in his mind. She had asked Genesis to save Gaia, but destroy nothing. When he had first found out he was so overcome with rage that he planned on killing Cloud outright. But he had recollected his thoughts, decided on what plan of action was best. If he couldn't kill Cloud, then he would teach him to fight off it's power.
He stepped forward, his sword dissapearing in a flurry of flames. "Cloud, you will fight this thing with all your will. If not... Then YOU will be the doom of us all. Now get up." He shot him a look before turning about. "Now, make your choice. Will you learn to control the power? Or will it control you?"

"I....I don't know how....I...didn't get any damned lessons....You know more than you're than you're telling! If I trust you....Which I don't fully yet. Tell me how to control this damned power inside myself....Tell me what I'm suppose to do....You were the philosopher of your time....weren't you? What ever I need to do stop this from happening, I'll do it....Just tell me please!"
Even Genesis couldn't help but cringe from the sheer sound of Cloud's broken pleading. But just knowing wasn't enough, he needed to develop a kind of willpower that can not be broken, that one could never lay flat with a flick of the tounge or swish of the blade. And that can never come from merely being offered knowledge, No. Genesis would have to break down Cloud to small peices and rebuild his will back up.
"Knowledge is not simply handed to those whom so not first earn or deserve such knowing." He turned and faced Cloud full on. "Now you MUST fight me, and prove your worth or..." Genesis needed a proper ante, something to get Cloud moving. He smiled as evil as he could the thought of Tifa popped into his brain. "Or I'll make your sweet Tifa into my clone. It's not destroying her, I'm just remaking her in my image. Would you like that? To be scorned by the very thing you love?" Not that Genesis cared about this Tifa, but he needed to light a fire beneath Cloud that none could douse.

Cloud lept up and struck Genesis blade. He was expecting such a reaction and held fast to his sword. Sparks showered the ground before dying away into mere ashes. Genesis took the chance to push off of Cloud and jump back landing lightly on his feet.
"My soul, corrupted by vengeance
Hath endured torment, to find the end of the journey
In my own salvation
And your eternal slumber."
The words danced across his lips as he moved his hands through the air summoning a powerful ice spell to his hands. With a flick of his wrist he sent a number of small ice bolts in Clouds direction.
"The gift of the Goddess can not be obtained by the unworthy!" He shouted sending a larger bolt through the middle of the already numerous others.
