Sonuske walked around the strange beach for the hundreth time, well it wasn't as strange as it was the first time. How did he always end up here he wondered, not that he was complaining. It was a nice sight. But with those he knew it wasn't as safe as it looked, last time he ended up here, he was confronted by two soldiers and neither of them seemed friendly. Hopefully they didn't show up, he wasn't in the mood for any troublesome women.
He had to get moving though, he didn't come here to sight see, he came with an objection in mind. He was a man on a mission, to find his lost best friend. Fate had disappeared quite some time ago, and this was the last place he had spotted him. He felt like he had searched this place for hours, with no sign of the young man in question. He had even expanded his search and asked a few of the locals if they had seen him. Nothing. He was starting to grow hopeless, he was on the verge of giving up and just assuming him dead. He had never been this hard to find before!
And with that, he sat down with a heavy sigh. He fell back and just laid there on the sand, staring up at the sky. A cloudless day... It just wasn't his day. He had no idea how long he just laid there motionless, staring into nothingness. He could feel a single tear roll down the right side of his head. He didn't know if it was from sadness, or from the position he was laying in for so long. At this point, he didn't really care either way.

Angeal walked along the beach still feeling the wounds he got on his little escapade with Fang and the PSICOM fellows. Lead and his flesh were not complete strangers of course, in his work he had been shot many times in many different ways. Buckshots, shots that went through, but of course he took them like the genetically altered being he was. He rubbed his hand over his neck before looking up and seeing who else but Sonny, his so called lazy apathetic student. Oh, what to do? He walked closely up behind Sonny and made sure he was not detected.
''How's it going bub?'', he said calmly. resting his hands in his pockets.

Army Of One”It’s not a question of can or can’t, there are some things in life you just do.” The beach wasn’t far off from Lightning’s old home...Cocoon was a bit different these days now that this focus stuff was all accounted for. It would never be the same and everyone who lived here could tell. But now being back here and starting over once more, Lightning was wondering whether she would go back to the Guardian Crops or just try and spend more time with Serah, she didn’t know, being a soldier was all she knew…and she needed some way to support herself and her sister…that is until Serah and the ‘hero’ got married. Which Lightning was okay with, but Snow still wasn’t her favorite person…to get out all these thoughts…she went to the beach, a quiet place to think for hours, which is what she normally did after a shift at work…but without work going on so far, its where she spent her days, walking up and down the almost endless shoreline. With a heavy sigh, Lightning continued to wander down the shore with her soldier stride, as she made it more down the beach she noticed a couple people here and there, enjoying the sunny day, most were probably trying to settle once more so they wouldn’t be out playing on the beach, which was perfect. Her eyes settled on two figures ahead, two guys, one laying on the sand and the other just standing there with his hands in his pockets. They of course didn’t look anything like Cocoon citizens…or anyone she had ever seen before at least. It was easy to tell who was or wasn’t from Cocoon these days, though it was difficult to differ Vanille or Fang from the crowd, these two just seemed to stick out a bit more. She slowed her pace and raised an eyebrow as she studied them both, wondering where exactly they were from. Out of sheer curiosity, she started her stride up once more until she stood a few feet away from the men, her blue eyes flickering back and forth to each of them every so often. As Lightning stopped and stood there she placed one hand on her hip and the other rested at her side. “Citizens or tourists?” She asked to try and ease her curiosity…or suspicion…whichever it was. Sonuske's eyes had started to close as his hopelessness and despair started to grow. He had almost fallen asleep, until a familiar voice awoke him from his groggy state. He looked up, seeing the sideburn wearing man he called a teacher. "Angeal? What...Are you doing here?" He asked, sitting up now. How in the world did Angeal get to this place? He quickly wiped his face, hoping that his sensei didn't see him showing a sign of weakness. He couldn't believe he was almost on the precipice of crying! Real men didn't shed tears, or atleast that's what he was told before back home.
Before he could even fully stand up, there was another voice behind him. He turned around, to see a young woman with pinkish hair standing there in a semi-demanding pose. She seemed to hold a commanding air about herself, so he felt compelled to reply. Most times, women like that tended to get angry when not complied with. "I suppose you could say tourist..... Though I'm not doing alot of sight seeing right about now." He answered truthfully. He still had to find Fate, if he was even alive that is.
With Angeal being here, it gave him a new sliver of hope. Angeal could find that knucklehead! Either that, or force him to train some more. And this new lady, maybe she could help too. She was clearly a resident of this place, and as such, most likely knew the layout of the land. He was getting ahead of himself, he didn't even know her name, yet he was plotting to enlist her services in helping him find his friend. He needed to slow his role, get to know this lady before he even thought of something like that!

''Ya look down kid, something wrong?'', he asked, this kid was of course out of his head, Angeal had a way of telling when something was wrong with people close to him. He looked at the young man, it was completely okay to shed a tear or two every now and then, just not okay to wallow around feeling sorry for yourself. ''Alright what's the problem kid, you're about to cry and now you're acting tough, not hard to see that you are hiding something'', he said scratching his chest, nobody quite knew his little secret yet, the foul promise he is now forced to complete.
''Hm, what am I doing here? Don't get too happy to see me kid'', he said sarcastically chuckling at Sonny still wondering what was eating at him. His eyes wondered to the young lady with pink hair, so many....colorful styles floated about this realm and Angeal never grew tired of the endless preferences of this world and it's people. Angeal knew Fang would not like the whole l'cie thing. But then again he was able to connect with her on a higher level, this thought gave him a little more hope. Ahhh, who was he trying to kid, she would be furious with him even though it was through no fault of his own that he was now a l'cie.
Angeal's previous thoughts were broken again when the young lady asked whether they were tourists or not, he laughed a little then decided to answer her. ''I'm a bit of both, my way home is a little out of whack wight now so I'm sort of a permanent.... transient... stationary resident'', he said placing his hand on his cheek and thinking that no home he could call his own was even in existence. His family was dead, nobody wanted to take in a wandering warrior. And once more, now he was a l'cie meaning to an extent his life was not his own. How could he kill someone he once called an ally, a friend and damn near a brother. This was wild, but he believed that his life had to continue because of his honor would not let him die.
He looked between the two of them went back to his thoughts, Sephiroth? Being killed by Angeal was a stretch as it is already, but to do it for the fal'cie and not in his own way and to his own volition made him little more than a paid mercenary, which he didn't so much mind. But when it was not for his own reasons the killing was null and void, well the would be killing anyways.
Which begs the more important question that Angeal has to answer. Is he more afraid of a woman who is skilled with weapons, or a man that he has known for a long time that has turned into a killed.

Army Of One”It’s not a question of can or can’t, there are some things in life you just do.” As Lightning stood there, staring at the two boys, her eyes locked onto Sonuske at first, he seemed…sad, not that she was one to judge but it just seemed like that, though she didn’t know either of them, perhaps the guy was like that to begin with? So she didn’t question it. As Sonuske answered another flood of questioned raced to her mind, was he just from another town…or…someplace else? As active as her thoughts were she really wasn’t all that talkative, unless she liked you or knew you well enough. As Sonuske finished his statement, Light’s eyes flicked over to Angeal. He was…sort of a resident, that was a weird way to put it, but she simply nodded and felt the need to just take that information and walk off, but no, curiosity made her stay. Her first question was answered and now it was time to offer up…maybe a little help to the tourist…or resident. Why she would offer up her services…who knew? But might as well try to lend out a hand to those who needed it, even if she wasn’t exactly a soldier anymore…she could still play the part really well. Lightning let her eyes glance between the two every now and then. “If you two need…any help around here just let me know.” She said in a slight mono tone as her eyes wandered off then back towards the small shacks away from the shore. Bodhum was a lovely place, it really was…the best beach on Cocoon and a great place to call home. “You’re in a city called Bodhum…just in case you didn’t know.” She said turning to face the ocean as she now rested both hands on her hips and just stared at the water. Why not go on with this soldier reputation she had…the Sanctum’s soldiers would surely reform again right? It was more than likely. “Name’s Lightning…Bodhum Security Regiment.” She said turning her head a bit to look at the two as she spoke before facing the water once again. She wondered what Serah was doing…probably off with Snow…and what about Hope or Sazh? With family she assumed, and what of Fang and Vanille...who knew. She closed her eyes for a brief second, forgetting where she was or that she was even around anyone as the memories of her own horrors of being a L’Cie rushed back into her head. She opened her eyes once more and breathed in deep. “Well if you don’t need anything I’ll just head out…Find me if you need assistance.” She said before starting her stride off slow away from the guys and towards one of the little bars that sat on the beach. Damnit! Angeal always had that way of telling when something was wrong. Sonuske sighed, he had planned on keeping that to himself, but he knew there was no way he could hide the source of his sorrow from this man. So he just decided to come out with it. "I...." He started, he didn't exactly know how to say it so well. Well, he did, it was more along the lines of of he didn't want to say it. He took a deep breath, and figured he should just come out with it and get this over with. "I can't find Fate.... I haven't seen him in months. Not a word, I'm starting to think he might be...." He stopped again, not wanting to actually voice his thoughts on the whereabouts of his best friend. He swallowed hard before continuing. "Dead.... This was the last place I saw him before he disappeared." He finally finished, now two lone tears, one in each eye inching their way down his cheeks. He stared at the ground, as if openly saying what he had been feeling all this time had made the realization strike home. He didn't want to believe that as a possibility, but he couldn't see any other clues that would lead him to think otherwise. "Don't get me wrong, I'm as glad to see you as ever. I just didn't expect you of all people to show up here."
He wiped his eyes, turning to the woman again as she spoke. Damn. He was crying, infront of a female. The last time he had done that was when he got hurt playing outside as a little boy and ran to his mother crying. He felt so weak in that moment that he didn't even hear her first sentence. He just caught the name of the place they were in. Bodhum, it was a pretty strange sounding name, but then again, Trabia wasn't exactly top 3 on a names list either. "Thanks, I was pretty lost." He said with a small smile, trying his best to hide the sadness in his voice. He didn't think he did a very good job at it unfortunately.
He realized he was still sitting and decided to stand up like everyone else around him. Security Regiment? If Lightning was part of Security for all of the city, she must've seen Fate at some point! Then again, one person couldn't have possibly patrolled the whole entire place, there had to be several soldiers for that, meaning she may have possibly been in a spot that Fate hadn't passed by, of course meaning she hadn't seen him. He hated being such an analyst sometimes, he raised his own hopes then shot them down as quickly as they'd sprouted.
"Wait Lightning!" He called out to her as she started walking away. If he was going to ask for her assistance in finding his buddy, he should get her to help before she left and got comfortable then would possibly refuse to help him. He had to ask while the offer was still fresh on the table. "I could really use your help in finding my friend, that is, if you don't mind...." He requested, rather sheepishly. He mentally smacked his forehead, he had forgotten to introduce himself! "Oh, and by the way, my name's Sonuske."

''Huh? Name's Angeal Hewley SOLDIER First class, pleasure to meet you, and no thanks, I have a way of finding my legs in places like this'', he said smiling and waving a little bit. Then Sonny started crying, What the hell? Angeal had the mind to smack the boy across the face. Angeal was training him to be a warrior, and warriors did not cry over a friend only being missing. There was a chance that Fate was only off doing his own training, he acted lazy and lackadaisical but he was instilled with the need for self improvement like all humans were. ''He's not dead, there would be one hell of a fight before that kid went down. Explosions of lightning, stuff collapsing, you give him much too little credit son'', he said placing his hand on Sonny's head.
Sonny was really acting unlike himself, of course he was lazy, but a manic depressant? Nah, not him and Angeal was not having that from him. ''Pick your face up, he's alive, most definitely, and if he isn't you and I will find his killers and make them pay'', he said, Angeal always dealt with wrongful and malicious death by dealing a little righteous death of his own. Maybe not the way most people would think, but Angeal knew no justice but the one that a blade provided, and if the will of the wielder is strong, then a man could write justice with the stroke of metal, or the swing of the arm.
Hey but after all Angeal had almost died twice in his stint on the plain, and no offense to Fate or Sonny, but they weren't exactly SOLDIER First class like Angeal was. So it actually was possible that Fate had perished, Angeal just did not want Sonny to lose the hope that Fate was alive, because when the human condition becomes clouded with ''what ifs'' then it loses sight of what is probable. ''I almost died, but I had two conditions that almost took me out'', he said about to give Sonny hope.
''The sorceress almost did away with me, and I doubt it would be so peaceful if he ran into her, I have not seen her'', he said. ''And I almost died while with a l'cie named Fang'', he said thinking of her beautiful form, BUT THIS IS NOT THE TIME FOR THAT. ''And I don't think the PSICOM just attack anyone'', he said thinking back to his brand, should he tell Sonny that he was now a l'cie, and to be around him was hazardous for Sonny's health. These were good reasons for Sonny to keep hope alive.
''So don't automatically write him off, okay?'', he said smirking and walking himself over to the sand bar where they had moved. ''And in this place when you've been made into a l'cie like myself, you are the only thing in the mind of the powers that be that needs to be eliminated'', he said looking down at the sandy banks of the beach.

Army Of One”It’s not a question of can or can’t, there are some things in life you just do.” Helping out wasn’t so bad now was it? Lightning just nodded as she continued to evaluate the situation here. The first guy, the one sitting in the sand, seemed utterly depressed, not that it was any of her business, hence she offered the help, not that she expected either of them to take it, she was a stranger to them after all but it was a nice offer. She kept her eyes watching from both of them and kept listening. When Angeal introduced himself her mind sort of sparked a bit. So he was a SOLDIER? Not one she had ever heard of, so definitely not from here, that confirmed it, but quite interesting. Someone was missing…here? That she could probably help with, just give her a name and brief description and she’d go out to find this person, or maybe she knew that person herself. As she nodded and started off then she was called back for assistance. She stopped and turned around and listened to Sonuske’s request, for her help to find his friend. What more was there to do on Cocoon these days? Nothing. So sure she’d join in and help, why not? But something else caught her attention. A L’cie named Fang…her eyes flickered to Angeal after he said that. “You know Fang?” She said quietly returning back towards the two. “Fang as in, lance thrusting, Pulse L’Cie, accented Fang?” Well that gave her some idea as to where Fang was now, at least she was safe and alive, now to find everyone else that was the key. Lightning then looked back at Sonuske as he introduced himself, she nodded as a response. “I’ll help anyway I can.” She said folding her arms across her chest as she shifted her weight around to one foot and was waiting for anymore information to be let out. “So what’s this kids name? What does he look like? Gotta give me the details before I can jump in a search for someone.” But the plot thickened even a little but more, Angeal was a L’Cie as well? So what was the Fal’Cie going around making everyone L’Cie these days? This was so mind-boggling to her. “You’re a L’cie…?” It almost concerned her. “What is your focus.” She asked demandingly as she thought of the many horrible things that could happen. Sonuske shook his head at Angeal's reasoning. "It's not that I doubt his abilities, that's not it at all. I know first hand what he's capable of." He explained. He had sparred with Fate on several occassions, many of them ending in a draw. He knew Fate was no weakling. "That's just it though. The last time I saw him, when he left, there were huge explosions. Everywhere. By the time I made my way to the scene, everyone involved had left already. I think I heard it involved Ultimecia, which only worries me even more. She's the most powerful person I've ever heard of, I know for a fact Fate couldn't take her down alone." He sighed. If the rumors were true, Fate had either become brainwashed into becoming her new knight like Seifer, or he was dead. It's not that he didn't have faith in Fate, he just knew the difference in power between him and a sorceress like Ultimecia.
His eyes widened at Angeal's next statement. "The sorceress? You didn't fight Ultimecia did you?" He questioned, his voice raising slightly in shock. If he did, then that means he was part of the incident that day. Meaning, he might've seen Fate that day. But, he clearly didn't know where he was, otherwise he would've said so by now. The part about taking vengeance sounded nice though, he could do that, it might make him feel a little bit better. But it wouldn't bring Fate back, so it'd be kind of pointless.
There was that name again, PSICOM. Were they everywhere? He had enough of them back on Gaia, but knowing his luck, they had probably spread here too. Or maybe this is where they originated. He didn't know, he just knew he had an extreme distaste for them. Apparently they both knew someone named Fang. In all honestly, it sounded like a man, a name like Fang sounded tough and vicious. But it could just as easily have been a vicious female. He was thinking too much, he was sure being around Angeal, he'd find out soon enough anyway.
Wait a sec.... Did Angeal just say he was a l'cie?! That was the same thing Repa's friend was, and what he was afraid Fate turned into... Also, what he thought he was. He still wasn't sure about himself though. "You're a l'Cie too? That's..... grand." He said, feeling even more down trotten than before. Now everyone he knew was becoming a l'Cie. Life was turning out to be just great. He needed to know if he was too. Only way to find out was to ask.
"Hey uh, if a random mark appears on someone's body.... Does that mean they're a l'Cie?" It sounded like he was describing a skin disease, but he hoped they could tell him what he wanted to know. Lightning seemed to be pretty knowledgeable on the subject, asking Angeal his focus and all that. Did she deal with them? Or was she one too?
He snapped back to reality when she started asking questions about Fate's description. "Oh right sorry. His name is Fate Lingod. He's kinda tall, about my height, pretty slim and kinda lanky. His eyes are a purple color, and he has black hair. Probably wearing a black t-shirt with some catchphrase on the front and some jeans." He gave the best rendition of Fate's appearance he could. Hopefully, she could go off that. Maybe Angeal could help describe him a little better than that.

So many questions about the origins of his.....l'cie-ship, he could not help but recollect on the hell he had been through with Fang a few days earlier, now he knew just how critical this l'cie thing could be. And now to hear Sonny tell it, he knew something about it too. Angeal could not help but wonder what exactly the l'cie were and why he was chosen to be tasked with the grim and difficult job of killing Sephiroth. ''I was informed that my task, or focus, is to kill Sephiroth, an old friend of mine. I apparently have been alloted fourteen years to complete this task then I turn into a crystal or a monster'', he said turning to Lightning, then she asked about Fang, he was not surprised, Lightning and Fang seemed like they would have each other's acquaintance. After all Lightning seemed to have a little spice to her as well, not that Angeal had seen it, but you see so many dispositions that you tend to overgeneralize a lot.
''Last time I saw Fang? A few days ago I do believe it was, Yes, that's it'', he said rubbing his chin and remembering what an exciting night that had been to say the least. Angeal looked up at her with a puzzled look on his face and then looked to Sonny, Why was he so curious about being a l'cie? Then he recalled how aloof Fang was that he himself had gotten his brand and was a l'cie and saw fit to check it out. ''You hiding something kid? I would hate to find out that you were one of these l'cie thingies'', he said smiling and moving toward him ominously. ''Alright, where is it?'', he said referring to the brand that he was hoping Sonny was in the absence of. ''Sonny if you have a brand I promise I will make sure you eat every single grain of sand on this beach'', he says grabbing the kid by the collar.
Sonny much like Fate had become like a son to him, and he would hate for him to be condemned to a life of serving the fal'cie like he had been. Angeal had learned what it meant from Fang, and it was not what he wanted for Sonny.

Army Of One”It’s not a question of can or can’t, there are some things in life you just do.” Lightning just kept quiet as the two conversed and then occasionally said something to her about her questions. It was really helpful to get filled in on these things…know exactly who you are dealing with. So Angeal’s focus wasn’t like destroy Cocoon, or whatever world he was from, that was a plus. But who was this…Sephiroth? It didn’t really interest her all that much, but something was there, all this L’Cie talk started to bring it all back, her focus, the things she and the rest of the gang had been through, and how everything turned out. It all seemed to be okay now. “14 years…” She said with a huff. “You sure were given a lot of time…must be a difficult task.” She said before her mind then went over to Fang. So she was here? Alive and well, that was good news, but what of Vanille? Might as well ask. “When you saw Fang…did she have another girl with her? Shorter, red hair in pigtails…sort of…giggly?” She asked quietly hoping Vanille was okay, along with everyone else. When Sonuske asked about the brand, a strange marking, Lightning assumed that he had one and was questioning it. Much like Angeal was. She cut her eyes over to Sonuske. “Sometimes…it depends on what it looks like…there are two kinds of brands. A Pulse brand, and a Sanctum brand.” Then her eyes went back to Angeal. “Speaking of which…are you a Pulse L’Cie or Sanctum?” She asked raising an eyebrow knowing that it really didn’t make a difference, either way you had the same fate, but still it was another detail to be added. The description of Sonuske’s friend sort of rang a bell…actually it was the name the struck her. Fang had mentioned something before about Vanille finding a guy…name Fate. So maybe she could offer a little bit of hope for Sonuske. “Actually…that Name, Fate it rings a bell….Last time I heard he was with another friend of mine…the one I just described to Angeal, her name’s Vanille…and apparently, she is with this Fate kid…” She said almost a small smile crossing her face. Almost. “Don’t you worry, if Fate is with Vanille, he is definitely safe.” She said with a confirming nod before Angeal started questioning Sonuske about where his brand was, and was going to force him to eat sand if he had one. Lightning just sighed a little and pressed her hand to her forehead as she looked around now, at least it was a step forward…finding this Fate guy. Find Vanille and you find Fate? Or find Fang, and see what more she had to saw…or go with option C) do it all yourself. Words: 555 Muse: Good Notes: None

"Pulse and Sanctum huh? Now let's pretend I have no idea what those are..." Sonuske wanted her to fill in the blanks he had. Those were probably the two types of l'Cie. This got more complicated as he learned more. So, there was a brand, which apparently had two types. Then there was a focus to complete, that if you failed you became a C'ieth, a monster. He had no idea what happened if you completed it.
"I wouldn't say I'm hiding it.... I would hate to find that out too." Sonuske replied, sighing. It's not like he wanted to be a l'Cie too, he was just curious. He was hoping he just had an odd shaped skin rash or something. He was about to show them the mark, but Angeal grabbed him by his collar, impeding him from showing them. "If you'd let go, I could show you! And I am not eating any sand! It's not like I asked for this! I never asked for any of this..." He said tearing himself from Angeal's iron grip, which he had to admit, wasn't very easy.
He sighed, taking off his jacket and his shirt, turning around so they could see the mark on the back of his right shoulder. "Well? What is it? Just some skin irritation right?" He really hoped that they told him he just had a rash, he wouldn't know what to do if were a l'Cie.

The kid was a l'cie, but Angeal couldn't be mad because it apparently was not a choice, as Angeal was forced into it as well. And not much could be forced on him, he was SOLDIER First class, and elite, not too many could stand to him period. He let the ocean breeze place with his armor and hair before he tuned his head away. he didn't want this for Sonny, but nothing could turn back the hands of time, and now he and Sonny were in the same struggle as one another. Battle after battle according to Fang, but Angeal was battle conditioned and battle tested, his credentials were flawless. But Sonny was a kid, a beginner, no way in hell Sonny was ready for a life of constant battle.
''We have to stick with one another now kid. I trained you partially, but now I have to make sure you are able to handle yourself if I'm not around. You have the makings of a warrior, and you know you do'', he said putting his hand on his own neck and rubbing it. Fang had told him it was hell being a l'cie, but honestly, he did not care, her hell and his hell were probably not the same type of hell.

Army Of One”It’s not a question of can or can’t, there are some things in life you just do.” Having to explain all of this wasn’t going to be easy, so Lightning figured she’d better be brief. “A Pulse Fal’Cie creates a Pulse L’Cie…their brand is shaped more rectangular with block-like shapes…as the Brand progresses you gain more arrows and a red eye in the middle. Once the eye is fully opened…you’re done.” She said knowing that part form experience, in fact, Fang was the one to fill her in about brand progression which did help quite a bit along the way. “A Sanctum Fal’Cie created a Sanctum L’Cie…their brand starts out rather small with a triangle shape on the bottom…” and that was all she could say about that, she wasn’t a Sanctum L’Cie so she didn’t really know…only from what she had heard from the stories and legends. Lightning was now fully convinced that she was standing here with two L’Cie. As Sonuske then showed them his brand, asking what it was. Lightning just placed her hand over her heart, that was right about where her own brand used to be. She sighed heavily. “It’s no skin irritation…” she mumbled a bit before Angeal started talking about the two sticking together, which from the looks of it, probably wasn’t a bad idea. Angeal looked like the type that could handle himself, Sonuske…not so much at least from her own opinion and her own memories of all that she had gone through as a L’Cie. Folding her arms across her chest, Lightning looked over at Angeal with a brow raised. “So what do you plan to do? Train for your focuses and then complete it?” She asked then shifting her eyes to Sonuske. “I’ve been in the same spot as you.” She said with a sigh as her eyes sunk to the ground. “tied to an inescapable focus…an inevitable fate.” She said before looking up again. “It’s not easy…that’s for damn sure.” All the complications of her journey though Cocoon and Pulse started to weigh down on her…it felt like Déjà vu, except this time she wasn’t the L’Cie…though being Sanctum she was probably expected to go out and hunt these L’Cie, not that she would…But she was sure PSICOM would…they hadn’t learned anything last time around did they?
