Yes, Squall did truly care for them all, even Zell. Sadly, he remembered jumping three floors (i think it was three) to save Zell's life when they were trying to escape from prison. Good times, good times. A slight smile came across his face as he thought about it. He would gladly do it all over again too. Only problem was that Zell would never let him live it down. But he, himself, would never be like Selphie. She was just too bubbly and happy. Still, she might have been the strongest of them all mentally and emotionally.
He shook his head no at Selphie's question and sighed slightly. No one would ever truly understand Squall neither would he ever truly understand them. "Nope... I'm more compl--Sure, let's go with that Selphie." Well, it would give her something to work toward. He just hoped she would get carried away with it, which likely she would. You had to love Selphie though. No matter how upset Squall was he could never stay upset long at her.
Seeing the reaction on Selphie's face as he made the joke caused Squall to laugh slightly. "No, you've already agreed on going to see Doctor Kadowaki so there's no point to," He said, "And if I were I would have cut your legs off so that you wouldn't escape by running away." He then placed his hand on his gunblade and glanced back at Selphie, slightly smirking. So this was how it felt to tease someone? It was fun. No wonder they always picked at him.
Squall made sure he listened to what the good doctor was saying. Knowing Selphie she would hear it, but not take in a word. Did the doctor just say that it could have been infected? See! No one ever listened to Squall. He was highly intelligent and only said things that would benefit the person... Besides, some of the jerkish things he said in the past... and present. Once it was all done Squall patted Selphie on the shoulder. "Now! You can worry about all that animal testing you wanted to do."

Adorkable Cutie ”Super-Duper-Mega-Bummer!!” When he denied it at first Selphie didn't believe him, he was probably just covering it over so that she couldn't get in his head. So when he changed his mind and told her basically it was correct a somewhat evil grin crossed her face. “I knew it!” Operation know what Squall was thinking could now be completed. Since she was always trying to know what he was thinking and crack that shell he hid behind. She didn't like it when someone was always thinking and never speaking what they were thinking about. It made it all the harder to actually know. So her goal? To get Squall to lighten up, maybe she was accomplishing it too...he HAD hugged her on his own free will. Selphie would say that was a start.
Man! Squall's smirk didn't tell her anything either, was he kidding? Yes? No? Maybe? She would have to say yes...who was serious when they said something like that anyway? It was written all over her face, the disbelief that he was actually kidding. That would be a good thing except...the jokes were about cutting off her limbs? Ok, maybe she shouldn't have teased him earlier in life, because he must be getting back at her for what she had done then. Not cool. Not cool. But then he laughed? That made it all better, as long as his morbid jokes could make him laugh then she was completely fine with them. “A hug AND a laugh all in one day?” She felt accomplished.
In the Doc's office Selphie was nodding but her mind wasn't really on the care being given. It was back in the lab finding out the DNA of the animals and figuring out where they had come from. It really was a good thing Squall was there, because she'd probably forget about all the things she was supposed to do in regard to her arm. Where were they from if they weren't from her world? Was there other worlds out there? No, there couldn't be! How could there be any other worlds out there? No. Selphie pushed the thought out of her head and concentrated on what was going on at the moment, her arm being bandaged. She got the last bit of the Doc's comments, she shrugged and nodded, she would try to follow those. Since Selphie had always been good at following orders however, if she thought of this as an order she could do it.
When they were leaving, she smiled as she got patted on the shoulder and Squall told her she could now worry about what she had wanted to get done before. “YEAH! So much to do! I've gotta get this figured out!” Once again bouncing off the walls with energy, Selphie forced herself to remain walking beside Squall. “I wonder where they're from.” Selphie yawned a bit and shook her head to clear it, she wasn't sure why she was tired, maybe because of the eventful day? But that wouldn't stop her from that lab work! Words: 627 Muse: alright Tagged: Squaaall Notes: none

Squall should have just kept silent, leaving her wondering what he was thinking once again. No, he had to open his mouth this time. Now she had a quest; to get into Squall's mind, to understand what he was feeling. Honestly, Squall had said what was on his mind to Selphie... He feared battles because he could lose those close to them. He did not mention that the responablity that he held was too much for him to handle. He was Squall, he was capable of doing anything and more. "Yup. If anyone can figure me out it's you."
A hug and a laugh in one day? Yes, maybe it was hard to believe, but Squall was not a machine. He did have human emotions. He just kept them buried inside or tried to. He also had to have a sense of humor... A few of his closes friends were Irvine and Zell. Those two were complete jokes and you would need a good sense of humor to hang out with them. Irvine always trying to be a ladies' man and Zell believing that he knows everything. That was funny, too funny. "Don't get too excited," He responded, "You've met your Squall Leonhart hug and laugh quota for the year." One hug and one honest laugh for everyone. She had just used her's... Okay, he was slightly kidding, but she better not expect a hug or a laugh everyday. That was not Squall like at all.
Squall was glad to see that Selphie was still bouncy and happy after being bandage up. She was a tropper. Now Squall would not mind letting her do her whole science thing. It would help knowing about these beasts though Squall had a good feeling he knew where they were from...
"...Cocoon" That is where Seifer said Ultimecia was last located. It was just an assumption, but Squall did not remember seeing creatures like these on his trip to Gaia. Still, there was no telling how many worlds there was out there. Cocoon, Unnamed World of FFVIII, and Gaia could not be the only ones. Leaving the doctor's office, Squall headed toward the elevator. They would need to get to one of the classrooms if she planned on doing her testing, right (not sure where they would have a lab at in the Garden lol)? ... Cocoon. We'll have to go there eventually...

Adorkable Cutie ”Super-Duper-Mega-Bummer!!” Selphie almost did another dance when Squall told her that if anyone could figure him out it was her. He probably didn't know how much that one little sentence had meant to her, because he might no know that it was basically her life's goal to get Squall to come out of his shell. She could do that if she actually got inside his head to know what he was thinking. She wasn't sure if it consisted of anything more then fighting, wondering about the future and protecting everybody. Of course, those weren't really the thoughts she was looking at trying to realize about, more like the deeper feelings.
There was a Squall quota?! “You only gave me one hug and laugh!! You mean you can't do it again for another year?! Thats preposterous! Thats insane! Its crazy! Its so horrible! Super-Duper-mega-bummer! I want another hug before the year is out!!” Yes, Selphie and her rants, once she got going Selphie usually got on a roll and didn't stop until everything she wanted had been said. Plus she got it all out in a very fast manner, as she had just done with what she had said, all the words basically strung together as she went on and on about the quota being ridiculous. Oblivious Selphie was very oblivious. She hadn't caught that he was slightly kidding, and the look of horror on her face showed that.
Trying to get rid of that ridiculous notion, Selphie plotted to get Squall to hug and laugh more. He really did need to stop being quite so withdrawn. Rinoa could help as well! She had always been better at Selphie for getting Squall out of his shell anyway. So with that in mind, she plotted to get Rinoa in on this once again and get him to open up, like he had for a bit after Ultimecia had been destroyed that last time. Better get cracking if she wanted him to open up for her! So she now had a free moment to look more in depth about those animal things.
When he said the one word Selphie leaned closer. “What was that? Cocoon? Whats in a Cocoon? I don't see any Cocoons around here. What is a Cocoon?” Selphie was just musing aloud, to some she might be irritating, but it was just her way. She liked to think out loud, which was exactly what she was doing. Besides she was confused. What did a Cocoon have anything to do with it? Like a butterfly cocoon? or...she was confused and it was written all over her face. She sure was a talkative one, but Squall liked it when she talked. Meant she was less focus on getting him out of his shell. Honestly, this was an objective that Selphie was going to fail at. He thought that he had came out of his shell quite enough. His personality was no near as cheery as Selphie, but he accepted them all as his freinds. He had changed a lot from when he first met the gang again. If he was the same way he was back then he would never be caught dead walking around the Garden with Selphie, enjoying himself.
"Sorry. It's actually a Garden code. Article 97; Line 12: Squall Leonhart is only allowed to hug one person once a year, Squall Leonhart is only allowed one laugh a year per person. Not acceptions." Who would have thought that teasing someone could be so much fun! Now Squall would never resort to Seifer's way of teasing. That was a bit harsh and cruel. This, what he was doing now was actually fun and easy. He patted Selphie on the shoulder and shook his head slightly.
Cocoon... Maybe Squall was thinking out loud now. Cocoon was the last seen location of Ultimecia. Squall was just making a big assumption. "It's nothing Selphie... I was just... Thinking out loud." She obviously had no clue what Squall was talking about. More than like she was not likely she listened, but the information went right out the other ear... He entered the elevator and held the door to make sure that Selphie would get it.

Adorkable Cutie ”Super-Duper-Mega-Bummer!!” The look on her face was shock. How could that be in the Garden Code?! It wasn't possible! No, he was lying, but why would Squall lie anyway? It didn't make sense! Now if it was Zell she was talking to she would have gotten instantly that he was teasing her. But with Squall the thought didn't even enter her mind. Not that it was impossible, but he never ever joked around, at least not with her. She was going to have to look up this code and see if he was being serious. Nose was wrinkled in concentration as she tried to figure something out. That couldn't really be in the Garden Code! When he patted her on the shoulder Selphie figured something was wrong. So she ran in front of him and then turned around so he would be forced to stop.
“LIAR!” Hands were on her hips as she burst out with that. She had finally gotten the fact that he wasn't being serious. “Liar liar pants on fire! That isn't in the Garden Code!” Oh yes, Selphie was onto Squall. He shouldn't think that she wouldn't ever catch on to him. “I'm onto you Squall Leonhart, don't think I'll believe anything you tell me!” with a nod, Selphie fell back in place and started walking again, feeling pretty proud of herself in the fact that she had figured out Squall was teasing.
If she had known about Cocoon and more worlds then Selphie might not have gone through that portal in the future. But since Squall didn't want to talk about it Selphie just shrugged it off. She would figure out when she figured out. But she was still wondering what a Cocoon was. “I wonder why those things attacked Garden...hey! Have you seen any of the rest of the gang recently? I haven't seen anyone, are they all busy? We should hang out sometime, have some fun, I really miss everyone...” Especially Irvine of course, but she wasn't going to say that, at least not to Squall. If it was Rinoa, Selphie might tell her about it, but Squall probably wouldn't appreciate her going on about her feelings. Squall wished he had camera to record this moment. Finally, someone was being teased and it was not him. He was the teaser and Selphie was the teased. It made it all that more enjoyable for Squall since Selphie had no clue that he was joking. Honestly, she was that naive that she actually believe that it was a Garden Code for a moment. Maybe, just maybe Squall would consider adding it to the code. When she stepped in front of him, Squall came to a stop and tilted his head to the side.
She was small so Squall could have easily walked through her, but he did not. "Liar, liar pants on fire?" Squall never understood that phrase. Seriously, have Selphie even read the Garden Codes? He shrugged slightly when she said that she was onto him. The teasing was fun while it lasted. He pressed on toward the elevator to get to the second floor. "Whatever you say Tilmitt... Whatever you say."
Cocoon was something that Selphie should have known about. She was there when Seifer had returned from Cocoon and mentioned that Ultimecia was still alive. Maybe it just went in one ear and right after the other like most things did. Since it had came from Seifer's mouth maybe she did not find it important. When she asked about everyone, Squall shrugged. "Rinoa has been trying to straighten things out with her father... Quistis has been busy with missions... Zell has--I don't know where Zell is... Irvine, i'm assuming he went back to Galbadia Garden for a visit." Squall looked at her from the corner of his eye. Even he could see that she like Irvine. It was crystal clear. "... You should tell him you like him. He does really like you despite him trying to be a... ladies man..."

Adorkable Cutie ”Super-Duper-Mega-Bummer!!” So they were all away doing something? Selphie sighed a bit, mega bummer! She wanted to be around her friends and not have everyone be all around without her able to talk to them. Especially Irvy. She wished he was around more. Not that she would just admit that of course, but she had been missing seeing him. Of course she understood that missions and visiting places took people away, but she would like to see them oftener then she did. “Why does everyone have to be scattered all over the place? I mean...I mean, I want to see them more, but they aren't around anymore. I wish we were all sent on another mission together, maybe to save the world again! That would be so awesome! All of us together!”
Selphie had begun to bounce on the tips of her toes as she walked along to her thoughts. Almost like the excitement of seeing her friends had taken over her body. Her jumping was suddenly ceased at what Squall had to say next. He knew?! Selphie tried to remember if she had told anything to anyone before, but she pulled a blank on that one. She couldn't remember telling anyone, especially not Squall. Of course, it wasn't like he was going to blab it to everyone like Zell would, but still! “How did yo-...I do not like Irvy!” She squeaked out, voice slightly higher then normal and she could swear the red was creeping up her face. If Squall knew, did that mean the rest knew? No, Zell would have blabbed it all over Garden if he knew.
“I mean, he likes all the girls, I wouldn't fall for that. Nuh uh no way, just because he looks great in the hat and coat doesn't mea-” Covering her mouth with her hands, Selphie tried to backtrack with what she had said. “oohhhh I didn't mean that, forget I said anything!!” This wasn't going well, and neither was trying to hide it either. Then something else caught her attention. “You mean it? Not that I'd care of course, since I wouldn't fall for that, but you think he likes me?” Realizing, Selphie turned a deeper shade of pink and waved her arms around. “I mean, I don't wanna know...well I do! But, well...how did you...” Selphie trailed off and folded her arms across her chest, “Besides, even if hypothetically I did like Irvy, major hypothetical there, I...um...wouldn't it be bad to tell him? I mean, he likes all girls, so...” Selphie was failing. Miserably. Why had she ever started liking that big oaf anyway?! He was such a flirt, it bugged her, but what could she do? Save the world again? Squall would glady pass that by if he could. That was just too much excitement for him to handle. Honestly, Squall would be happy with a life less frightening. A life of peace, but that was not his destiny. His destiny was to lead Garden, to defeat the Sorceress Ultimecia no matter how many times it took. But Selphie was right, the gang seem to be doing their own things now. It was not like they had grown apart. Squall felt like this was the closest they have ever been. "...How about we bring everyone together at the Garden Festival."
She could try to deny it as much as she liked, but even Squall could see that she did. Given the way she responded it must have been true. And maybe Zell did overlook it. Zell had a tendency to not notice the obvious despite how smart he was. "You don't like Irvine..... Yeah..." But now Squall was wishing that he kept his mouth shut. He was trying to be a good friend was hard. Seriously, everyone saw it. Squall saw it, Rinoa saw it, and also Quistis.
"It doesn't matter because you'll never fall for him," He shrugged, "...But he was the one that came to me with the idea of having the Fishermen Horizon's technicians help make the Garden Festival possible last time..." Irvine saw that she was pretty upset that the Garden Festival was going to be ruined which gave Irvine the idea. "You all tell me to voice my feelings, say what's on my mind... So why not lead by example and just tell him," He said, "Unfortunately, you're the female so that means the ball's in your hand to make the first move... So are you going to shoot or pass it?"

Adorkable Cutie ”Super-Duper-Mega-Bummer!!” Apparently nothing got past Squall. A good thing normally, when you were trying to hide something from everyone it wasn't such a good thing. Ok so he had figured it out. No sense trying to hide it even more, since he didn't seem to be buying her story. Yet as she only halfway listened to what he said -only because her mind was preoccupied- something caught her attention. It was a rhetorical question of course, spoken only because she was having a hard time grasping it. “Irvy...it was Irvy that came up with that idea?” The look of shock on her face was coupled with the oval of her mouth hanging open. She hadn't known that...of course it all made sense. But...well before would have been a nice time to know.
He was right of course, darn Squall and always being right. He usually had everything thought out and worked out. Probably because he thought so much and spoke less then everyone else. But if Squall knew...did everyone? Now THAT would be embarrassing. “Ooooohhhh you have to use logic on me don't you!!” That little outburst was complete with a waving of her arms. How was it that she had to go first? Didn't normally guys ask girls on dates? Selphie sighed, no matter, for some reason she thought she would indeed be the one who had to make that first move. Irvine surely wasn't getting around to getting the job done. If she could get his mind off every other female in Garden she might have a shot at it. They would see...
The next time she would see Irvine however, would be when she was on Cocoon. If she had thought she would get sucked into a different planet Selphie probably would have at least called him. No matter, Selphie was determined from her conversation. “Well I guess, I mean, I could do that, since you had to go and use logic on me. He's obviously not getting around to asking me! If its been that obvious and everyone knows then HE should have known! I mean...I dunno what I mean, but...ahhhhhh ok, maybe I'll ask. Maybe!” Giving herself a pep talk in the form of talking to Squall had its advantages. At least he wouldn't spread it all around like Zell would. Smiling at Squall, Selphie ran forward to hug him before turning around and running the opposite way. “Thanks Squall!!” Was all she shouted over her shoulder. She had things to do! Not only was she still going to go see about that DNA, but now she had to plot on how to ask Irvy out without being weird about it, and she had to go back and finish the Garden Festival planning. A lot to do... Words: 576 Muse: pretty good Tagged: Squall Notes: the end?
