Rod
“If ya obey all the rules, ya miss all the fun.”
Custom Title: The Cocky Turk
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Family: unknown.
Race: Human
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Home World: Gaia (FFVII)
Alignment: ShinRa
Job: Turk
Items: PHS, handgun
Accessories: black tie
Appearance: Rod stands tall at around 6ft in height, and has a slightly lanky, lean and toned physique. His hair is auburn in colour, and is rather untameable and naturally messy and spiky. He manages to control it a little, but not much. His eyes are a mixture of green and blue, and he almost always has a mischievous smirk on his face.
Personality: Rod is a rather brash and proud young man. His slum background has shaped who he is and has made for him being rather harsh sometimes, and he’s still not used to thinking before he speaks. He can be relatively sadistic when he wants to be, which stands in contrast to his usually laid back appearance and attitude. When he’s on the job, he always gets it done, and done well. However, his lack of thinking before acting and being rash can get him in some pretty dangerous situations, especially if you take his temper into account.
He is quite quick-tempered; another trait of his that still lingers from his slum days. Get on his bad side, and it’s pretty hard to get back to his good side. If he gets annoyed or angry enough, he’ll just snap and you wouldn’t want to see him if he did. However, in contrast, Rod is usually laid back and enjoys having a laugh and joking around with his friends and co-workers. Even on the job sometimes, if he feels the situation needs lightening. Consequently, he often finds that his actions can annoy those around him, which has resulted in many smacks upside the head for him.
Rod is also rather conceited; his self-confidence has even been described as ‘towering’. He’s gotten a little better since his ‘I’m-the-best’ slum days, but that doesn’t mean to say that he’s no longer conceited at all. He still thinks quite highly of himself, and has a large amount of pride that can get in the way of him saying or doing certain things a lot of the time. His large amount of confidence in himself comes from knowing exactly what he’s good at, and knowing that he could beat almost anyone in a fight – after all, that was what his life was based around before he became a Turk.
History: Rod was born in Midgar, on the upper plate. But despite being slightly better off than those below the plate, it was just by barely. It was through chance that his mother married a man who had a fair amount of money. They still weren’t all that rich, but they got by a lot easier than others. At least, to begin with they did. When Rod was seven, his father died, and so he and his mother moved back to the lower plate. It was from here that Rod started to get mixed in with the ‘wrong crowd’, a gang; one that he would eventually find himself the leader of.
From when he was seven, his life was gang-centred. They sent him to steal things for them, and he was even their drug rat for a while. He was forced to take some drugs himself a few times, and those occurrences still haunt him now. He learned how to fight by watching the other gang members and by getting into fights himself with the other children in the Sector. In all his life, even as a kid, he had never lost a fight. So by his mid-teens he was rising quickly through the ranks of his gang, and eventually became the leader at the age of eighteen.
His towering self-confidence allowed for the members of his gang to place their full trust in him, even as young as he was. Before he had become leader, he had just spent most of his time fighting other gangs and running around on various stolen motorbikes, but now that he was in charge, he set his sights higher. Rod believed full-heartedly that nothing and no one could take him down, but that was what came from living his whole life without ever knowing the taste of defeat.
It was this very overweening pride that prompted him to try and steal a motorbike from ShinRa. In the rather brutal fight that ensued during his attempted escape from the ShinRa building, he realised that perhaps he wasn’t the big shot that he thought he was. Quickly realising that if he wanted to be the best, he would have to work with the best, Rod accepted the offer of employment the Turks gave him because of his already pronounced fighting skills. He set his sights high, and intended on becoming the best out of all the Turks, even having aspirations for leadership.
However, even after leaving the Turks, just as many of the others did, Rod missed the job terribly and even more so, his co-workers. Normal life just didn’t seem to suit him as much as life with the Turks did. His big mouth got him into what would have been troublesome situations for anyone else that wasn’t an ex-Turk. He managed to make a decent living for himself by fixing and repairing motorbikes and other vehicles. But now...he’s had enough of the ‘normal’ life, and has decided to see if Rufus and Tseng will let him back into the Turks.
