Nanaki wasn't going to allow the archer to kill Ariwara. He wasn't sure if she had even been killed by the first strike. All he could do was react to the archer's attack in countering him before he struck again. Since the archer already had a notched arrow, Nanaki knew he might get a shot from an arrow too.
Just when he was about to meet the archer's arrow though, the bow and arrow had been knocked aside. Not bothering to glance over just yet, Red XIII figured some sort of force must have aided him then. Maybe Ariwara had recovered and helped out? It was the only logical thing he could think of to explain it.
Seeing as the archer was weaponless there was no way he'd be able to defend himself against Red XIII's fury. He despised dishonorable things like shooting people in the back. There would be no mercy for this archer. Snarling, Nanaki managed to pounce the man so he landed on his back. Whatever happened from then on, Ariwara wouldn't wish to see.
When he was done, Nanaki leapt back in through the window and licked his claws. "He won't be bothering you anymore, Ariwara." He was surprised to see that she hadn't been awake to have heard him. Contained within her own air bubble, Ariwara was passed out.
"Ariwara?!" he exclaimed, hurrying over. How could he help her? He had no opposable thumbs! The bubble probably wouldn't even let him inside! Would she live? Sniffing about it, he suspected that she had passed out and her bleeding had stopped from the look of things. He just hoped it didn't mean she was about to die. Nanaki would feel ashamed that someone who had aided him would suffer death just because he had been too careless.

Ari still didn’t move. She didn’t even know that Nanaki had killed the archer. She hadn’t even seen Nanaki kill him. She had been unconscious for the entire scene. She suddenly moaned, coming to. She rolled onto her back, breathing heavily and cringing in pain. She looked up at Nanaki, and smiled, trying to reassure him that she was alright. “I-Is he…dead…?” She knew she would be ok. She just had to let the wound heal. Fortunately there was still a little bit of the healing paste that she had made for Nanaki left.
She pulled herself up by using the chair and the table that was nearby where she had fallen. She frowned, seeing that there was a pool of blood on the floor. She would have to clean that up later. She stumbled over to the other table, cringing at the pain. It hurt like hell. She grabbed some of the paste, and then stumbled over to Nanaki. She tripped and she grabbed onto him to keep herself from landing on the floor. She hoped he didn’t mind. “Sorry…” She then stood in front of him. “Can you…put this on…my wound…?” She hoped that he could. It was starting to hurt worse, and the cold air didn’t help either.

Several moments had passed in tense silence. All Nanaki could do was wait outside the air bubble Ariwara had conjured up. He figured if she had died, then maybe it wouldn't have affect after a time or simply dissipate. So Ariwara had to still be alive. Even his nose told him that she was merely unconscious. Standing there, he waited for her to start coming to.
It didn't take too long before she started waking up. Hearing her groan relieved him. It told him that she still had life in her. "Ariwara? Are you alright?" he spoke to her, trying to help her pull into full awareness.
In response, Ariwara gave him a smile despite her pain. Her first words since waking was to ask if the archer was dead. Nanaki knew very well the archer was dead. He made sure that he wouldn't be able to do them harm anymore. No one like that deserved mercy. "The coward is dead." Nanaki said it simply and rather calmly. A sign that he hated dishonorable acts. Shooting someone in the back was one of the many acts of dishonor.
Ariwara moved after a time, picking up the bucket from earlier that she had used to smother Nanaki's wounds with. Looking back at her, he perked up his ears to better hear her as she asked him if he could put the paste on her injury. "I don't have a thumb like your kind does...but I'll do my best."
With that, he wandered over to the paste, dipped a paw in it and did the best he could to cover Ariwara's wound with it. Sure, he was a bit clumsy having no real human hand to do it with but he managed to cover it entirely all the same. "I think I've managed it."

Ari waited for him to apply the paste to her wound. She was glad that the archer was dead. What she wanted to know was how the archer had found her. She had thought that she had gone far enough North to escape them. They were neko hunters, hunters who killed nekos and used their ears and tails to make things like hats and mittens. It was horrible, yet no one had tried to even stop them. It made Ari angry, and she rarely got angry. This was one of those rare occasions.
She looked out the window and saw the dead archer’s body in the snow, surrounded by a pool of his own blood. She shivered, making a disgusted face. She hated seeing a lot of blood. She was very squeamish about blood that was not her own. She was glad that Nanaki was on her side. She made a mental note not to piss him off in the future. She knew she would be in for it if she made him angry. He could easily kill her with one paw.
She winced in pain and at the coldness of the paste as he applied it to her wound. She was in pain, but it soon started to recede as the paste began to work its magic. When he was done, she went over to the mirror and looked behind her. She saw the paste on her back, where the wound had been, and then turned to Nanaki and smiled. “Not bad. Thank you for your help.” She was still weak and shaky. She wobbled over to him, clinging to him to keep herself from falling again. She hated being injured.
She grabbed a towel and went over to him. Taking his paw, she raised it and cleaned it off for him. She then smiled at him. “I’m glad I met you. I would have been dead there.” She tossed the towel into the sink, and collapsed to the floor, too weak to stand. She had lost a lot of blood from the wound, so she would need to rest before she was on her feet again. Looked like they weren’t going anywhere for at least a day, but maybe they could, since the paste had worked so well on him.

Nanaki watched as Ariwara looked outside where he had left the body of the archer. He was quite certain the man wouldn't be getting back up anytime soon. Where Ariwara was making a mental note not to anger Red XIII, he had no real intentions of doing anyone harm that didn't deserve it. He only attacked someone if they truly meant to do others harm. Ariwara wasn't like that so there would be no reason for Nanaki to act like that toward her. That and he was intelligent enough where his anger he could keep in check and not use it freely like a normal beast.
As she inspected his work he had done with the paste, Nanaki wondered if he would be able to get away with licking what was left on his paw. Probably not. Not all herbs were edible and his senses told him where it healed wounds, he'd be in for some trouble if he tried licking the paste off.
"You're welcome. I'm glad I applied it the right way." Nanaki allowed her to use him as support to move around. He didn't mind at all that she did so. She had helped him, the least he could do was return the favor. Helping her obtain a towel, he made no protest as she wiped off the paste from his paw. Hearing her speak, he just smiled back.
"I could say the same about you." It had been true. If he didn't meet Ariwara, he would've died in Icicle Inn because no one else would've bothered to help him. Seeing her collapse to the floor, Nanaki wandered over to the couch in her cottage, grabbed a blanket with his teeth and dragged it over to her. Setting it over her, he then wandered to find her a pillow to make it more comfortable for her on the spot where she landed.

Ari smiled at Nanaki. She was feeling stronger already. She was glad that she had met him. He was her first friend, and she had a feeling that they would be friends forever. At least, she hoped they would. She frowned, thinking of what could go wrong that would end their friendship. She shook her head vigorously. She shouldn’t be thinking that way! She mentally scolded herself for letting herself think that. She had to stay positive, especially since she was wounded, or it would never actually happen.
Ari smiled up at him when she heard him say that he was glad that he had met her too. She was very happy, and it seemed like nothing could stop her. She frowned when he put the blanket over her with his teeth. He didn’t have to do that, but it was a nice gesture. She loved how kind he was, especially towards her. He had protected her, and now he was caring for her. She didn’t know what to say. She was too happy and awe struck to form any words.
Ari didn’t know why he had gotten the blanket and pillow for her, but she didn’t ask him. In fact, she appreciated it. She took the pillow and set it down, and then lay down. She looked up at him. “So, we are leaving tomorrow yes?” She smiled up at him. At the angle she was at, he looked so majestic and powerful, and the light glowing behind him definitely helped with the powerful and majestic image. She closed her eyes, her ears still cocked so that he knew she was still listening. She tried, but in about five minutes, she was asleep.
Ari hadn’t meant to fall asleep on him. She would have to apologize for that later. She was just so exhausted by the events that had recently happened that she couldn’t help it. She hoped that Nanaki didn’t mind her falling asleep on him. She suddenly started to shiver, not being able to control it. She was freezing, and she didn’t have enough clothes or blankets to stay warm. She switched positions, but she still shivered uncontrollably.

Nanaki wasn't a normal animal. So, of course it was bizarre to see something like him having characteristics like a human. Caring for others and protecting them was two examples of some of the human-like qualities he and his kind shared. Other than humans and dolphins, Nanaki's kind was super intelligent and one of the only other intelligent creatures on the planet.
He looked at Ariwara as she took the blanket and pillow, setting them down properly for her own comfort before asking him a question. Looking at her, he was unsure of how fast her healing abilities would be. Maybe her's would be swift too?
"If you're well enough, then yes we shall. I wouldn't want to travel unless we are both at good enough conditions." He was speaking the truth. Traveling when in such bad conditions would be a very unwise move. Monsters would try to eat them every chance they got just because they sensed a weaker and wounded prey. Nanaki wouldn't want to fight more beasts than he had to. What also troubled him was what the archer had to do with Ariwara. Had it been coincidence or was there some reason behind it?
As he wondered this, he was pulled out of his thoughts when Ariwara suddenly fell asleep on him. Looking at her in puzzlement, he sighed to himself. Cait Sith or Yuffie always did the same thing with him. By now, he was very used to this sort of thing. Sometimes the children, the very little ones, in Cosmo Canyon rested on him. So, he remained where he was for now.
During that time, he too had begun to fall asleep. He had just started drifting off into deep sleep when Ariwara had woken him up. Blinking, he glanced over and noticed she was shivering. He would've curled his tail closer to her but the flames were at risk of setting the blankets or her on fire so he refrained. Getting up, and stretching, he went to find another blanket. Once he found it and took it over, covering Ariwara with this one too, he padded next to her and curled up beside her, his fur and body heat hopefully just enough to keep her warm.

Ari was still shivering. She was asleep, but she was having a nightmare, with the shivering as a result. She switched back and forth, mumbling something. She didn’t want to wake up, but she was freezing. She was still shivering, and she couldn’t stop. She didn’t know what to do.
She considered waking herself up, but she suddenly felt warmth. She hugged the blanket closer, and felt the warm soft fur of Nanaki beside her. She smiled, and clutched it gently so as not to hurt him. She moved closer, burying her face in his fur. She stopped shivering, and stopped mumbling. Her nightmare had turned into a good dream.

(OOC: That's fine. I know how it feels.) Nanaki was sure Ariwara would soon awake if she didn't get something warm on her soon. He didn't want her sleep interrupted only for the girl not to get enough rest for the next day. He was still hoping to make the journey back home tomorrow. If he couldn't, that was fine too. He would wait for a friend if they needed an extra day to heal.
Red XIII settled down, curled up beside the cat eared and tailed girl. Silently, he watched as her shivering eventually ceased. Cuddling up into his fur, he could tell by the slight smile on her face that she was finally warm and comfortable again.
Seeing that, Nanaki closed his own eye and started drifting off into sleep once again.
-------------------------------------------------
The next day, Nanaki didn't wake until the early afternoon hours. Blinking away sleep, the red lion-wolf looked about the area. Letting out a low yawn, Nanaki exposed his sharp teeth as he let his tongue loll out slightly in the yawn.
He then peered about for Ariwara. Did she sleep well? Was she healed? And was she still where he had left her or was she awake and about? He didn't know as he turned his head to where he last knew she had been sleeping.

Ari slept soundly against Nanaki, dreaming of him. She was happy now, and comfortable. She had a bed, but she wanted to sleep with Nanaki. He was a hell of a lot warmer than her bed would ever be, so she wanted to stay warm. She knew it would get colder overnight. She just hoped that Nanaki would be ok. Sometimes it got to the negtive side of the temperature gauge, so even a warm beast like him might get cold. She shifted positions one more time before she fell into a deeper sleep.
------------------------------------------------------------
Ari yawned and opened her eyes. Her ears flicked, and her tail raised itself. She looked at Nanaki, who was still sleeping. She smiled and petted his fur, and then threw back the blankets. She then got up, and she shivered. It had gotten colder than she had originally thought. She hugged herself, and walked over to the mirror. She took off her shirt, leaving only her bra. She then looked at him, making sure he was still sleeping, and looked at her wound in the mirror. It was completely gone! She felt great.
She didn’t see Nanaki wake up, and she was still in her bra. She had grown used to the cold, so she forgot to put her shirt back on. She went over to the cupboard and got out a mug. She then got out a pot, and poured some water in it. She was going to have some hot water. She went to the stove and put the pot on the stove, getting out a tea packet while she waited for it to boil.

(OOC: Okies, that's good.) Nanaki had no interest in two legged things in that aspect. Seeing a human with less clothes would not affect him in the slightest. He didn't even understand why humans wore clothes. Nanaki's kind always wandered about in nothing but their fur and what little trinkets they had like the four golden braces he had on each leg.
Upon waking though, he hadn't seen Ariwara anyways. All he did notice was that she was no longer beside him asleep and must have wandered off. He didn't assume the worse had happened as he stood up and stretched. His legs had been somewhat stiff having to sit so still throughout the night.
Moving his wounded paws, he could see the pain was hardly more than a slight ache now as he padded about the room. His fiery tail swishing behind him carefully as he did so.
'I might be able to go on my journey home at this rate...but what about Ariwara?' he wondered. Sniffing the air, he could tell Ariwara had to be back in her kitchen again. He could smell steaming water in the air. Silently, he headed over into the kitchen.

Ari didn’t even hear Nanaki get up. She was too busy tending to the water on the stove, which was now boiling. She grabbed the tea packet and poured it into the water. She accidentally touched the pot and recoiled back, squealing a little. She didn’t know that Nanaki was up, so she covered her mouth immediately. Turning off the stove, she put her finger underneath the cold water, and then put a band aid over it. She kissed it, and then dumped the tea in.
After she had mixed the tea, she let it sit for a little while. She put her shirt back on and then another layer of clothes. She didn’t understand why it was so cold. She looked at the window, but it wasn’t open. She looked at everything that could possibly be open, but everything was shut and locked tight. She frowned. She had no heat in the house seeing as she couldn’t afford it, and yet she had everything shut up. She didn’t know what it could be.
She shivered and went back to her tea. She poured a mug and then sat down in the chair, grabbing her book and drinking the tea, then setting the mug down. She began to read, checking the entrance from the living room to the kitchen for Nanaki to wake up. They would be going on their trip today. She was very excited, and she couldn’t wait. She was feeling great, pain free, and she hoped that Nanaki was feeling the same. She hoped that he was up for the trip. She didn’t know how long it was to Cosmos Canyon, but she didn’t care. She was happy and excited.
She couldn’t contain her excitement. She got out of the chair, still wrapped in her blanket. She started to pace back and forth, wondering what Nanaki was up to. She wanted to wake him up because she wanted to get going on the trip, but she didn’t want to be rude. She was a polite neko, and she wasn’t about to ruin that.

(OOC: Yay!) Nanaki followed the scent of the boiling water in the air as he trudged towards where he sensed Ariwara's kitchen must have been. Inside, he saw Ariwara tending to the boiled water. On her hand, she wore a bandaid. Did she mistakenly burn her hand? He didn't know because he had come into the kitchen a little bit after that incident.
He could see that she had been drinking tea and reading before he saw her noticeably pace about the room. He could sense her excitement but was she healed enough to take on the journey? After all, it would be taxing on the two of them if they weren't fit enough.
"Ariwara?" he said her name curiously, making his presence known. He was walking about rather normally, his paws no longer hurt nor his limbs save for slight aches that meant nothing to him. Red XIII had worse injuries in the past, after the paste had healed his wounds, he was no longer unable to walk about. All of it was thanks to Ariwara.
"Are you well? Do you think you can make the journey?" he inquired politely. If she wasn't, he would wait for her another day. He did notice that when he spoke, an obvious breath of vapor appeared in front of him from the heat of his breath. It was surprisingly cold in the cottage even though the kitchen had warmed up a little bit from the boiling water.

Ari was still pacing the floor. She was still anxious to get going on the trip. She wondered what they would see on their trip, what they would do for food, shelter, etc. That’s when she started to worry. She wondered how they were going to take care of all of that stuff. How were they going to survive on just the bare necessities? They would never live off of just those few things, and whatever the land had to offer. She wondered how Nanaki had survived the harsh trip to come this far. He must know how to survive, so since she was travelling with him, then maybe they would be ok.
She heard her name being called, and looked up to see the lion-wolf standing in the door way. He seemed to be pain free, at least from what she could see. She smiled at him. She then nodded. “I am almost cured. There is nothing but a scratch. How are you feeling? I must admit, I am excited about this trip. Meeting your family, exploring new places, it sounds wonderful!” She giggled. She spun around, and then almost tripped and fell. Luckily she fell towards Nanaki, and she grabbed onto his fur. Man was she clumsy. She smiled sheepishly.
“Sorry! I’m a little clumsy when I’m excited.” She pushed herself away from him, straightening her outfit. She blushed a little, avoiding making contact with his eyes. She then looked at him again. “So, when do we leave?” She was so excited that she really couldn’t sit still. She started putting things away, straightening up the house, trying to occupy herself while she waited for them to leave.

(OOC: Oh noes! lol) Nanaki wasn't worried about the trip to Cosmo Canyon. He had ways of getting there. From here to Cosmo Canyon, he'd need to catch a ship again. That wasn't all that hard considering many ships went to and from this continent. If they didn't, people in Icicle Inn wouldn't get the goods or resources they needed here. Food was never a problem for Nanaki to find either. He could hunt rather well being what he was. Shelter wasn't all that hard either but on some nights he had been forced to sleep out under the rain. Hopefully that wouldn't be a problem this time.
"It's good to hear you're doing well. As for myself, I am fine." He truly meant it too. There was hardly any pain to be felt. Looking up at her as she explained that she was excited to be going on an adventure, he somewhat smiled. "It's understandable that you would be excited."
Just narrowly, she caught hold of him when she twirled on the spot and tripped. Hearing her state she was clumsy, Nanaki somewhat chuckled. Yuffie was clumsy too. Ariwara reminded him of her somewhat. "I have a friend who sometimes gets like that."
Then came the question as to when they would leave. "Well, if you are ready, we could begin now..." he trailed off, walking out of the kitchen towards the door that would lead outside. Pausing before it, he peered over his shoulder so his only good eye could look back at Ariwara as he waited to hear what she would say.
"I warn you that the journey may be harsh at times. So, if you are truly ready for it, let me know."
